"What did you see in them
That you couldn't find in me
Just tell me and I can change
Make a list of all the things you want me to be
Just tell me and I can change"

"I'm just a whisper of smoke,
I'm all that's left of two hearts on fire,
That once burned out of control,
You took my body and soul,
I'm just a ghost in this house."

51 | 52 Winter/Summer

The winter solstice brings many things with her December arrival. Depending on the jet stream, many will feel the grips of her cold blustery entrance with the fresh excitement of snows arrival. Bare, leafless, brown trees, with mild temperatures might be the forecast for many. Those a little further south, sip from a salt rimmed glass with their toes sunk into the cool white sand.

Wherever you are, no matter the weather, the winter solstice will always bring Christmas with her.

Some embrace the hustle and bustle of the magical season, while others want to hang a ball of mistletoe just above their backside.

Good or bad, Christmas memories will linger with us throughout our lifetime. The greatest Christmas I ever had came on the banks of the mighty Ohio river. During the summer months, just before the winter solstice would make her grand entrance; my in-laws had to cut down a sizable pin oak who's roots were invading the in ground pool. My mother-in-law requested that all the remains be piled up by the dock down at the river. I knew nothing of this until that magical night.

If the Grinch has a brother, it's me! I just don't care for the buy him and her that, and hearing how it's "Jesus is the reason for the season" while watching the wal-mart line commence to an all out brawl. With that being said, I remember sarcastically asking for only one thing that year: SNOW.

Just before darkness fell over the log house and the mighty Ohio, the ominous sky started spitting flakes of snow. As the flakes grew bigger and stronger, we headed down towards the river. With the snow accumulating, the remains of the pin oak were doused with oil, gas, and lit with the strike of a match.

My Norwegian mother-in-law began to sing carols in her native tongue to me and her baby. Standing on the dock, singing carols by the glow of that burning oak, and watching the current of the river flow downstream through accumulating snowflakes, for a brief moment the miracle of Christmas found me and warmed my heart.

"Singing carols, stringing popcorn, making footprints in the snow,
Memories, Christmas memories, they're the sweetest ones I know."

Took 3 weeks, I was shooting for 2 but it's all done.
Complete website with maps, links directing to area schools, utilities and taxes. Still photos and a virtual tour containing 20 spins.

This is a beautiful property situated on 9 +/- acres, 1.5 miles from Carowinds theme park, in the number one ranked York 4 Fort Mill school district. Two homes make an ideal in-law suite or the 9 acres with 200' of Pleasant Road frontage makes it very appealing for developers.

48 | 52 My Country

The freedom that protects me, Franklin Graham, and Jessie Jackson also protects my friend and neighbor.

Aneeta arrived to the United States of America when she was only three years old. Her lineage traces to Punjab where when her father was a young boy left for England. While her mother was born in England, she too descends from Punjab.

Chasing something -maybe the American Dream, Aneeta’s parents found their way with her and her two brothers to Rochester NY. The Uppal family that now lives directly across the street from me, all applied for full US Citizenship and passed the test. They have have dual citizenships from the UK and the USA. They practice the Sikh religion and are welcome in my home at any given time.

Aneeta is currently pursuing graduate studies in bioinformatics where she hopes to one day impact the field of medicine.

Freedom allow’s us many things here the United States of America. Having friends who’s religious beliefs are different than mine is just but one of those precious freedoms.

“Living in the Promiseland
Our dreams are made of steel
The prayer of every man
Is to know how freedom feels.”
