Things I have to do today: change to summer tires on the Audi, take the air filter back out of the RV so the mice don't eat it.  put a new filter in the truck so it can be driven, and come up with a way to keep the mice away from it.  RC helicopter batteries are charged, so I should go out and try not to crash it.  Thats all I can think off.  Maybe I'll finish with a motorcycle ride.

Powered down the Drobo and it left the file system corrupted.  Now I'm thinking about improved large-data backup options.  While Drobo support has been fairly good so far, they even called me 3 minutes after I filed my initial support request and they have given me free recovery software, I am reluctant to continue using this device.  A new enclosure or NAS is required.  New disks is probably a good idea as well and would simplify the recovery process.  I've also been very disappointed with the performance of this Drobo (gen 2).

Another Drobo: $800 (no drives) Pro: 5 drive support, mixed drive support, decent customer support. Con: slow, expensive, bad reputation.  I don't have thunderbolt, so the "fast" version is out; this really sucks.

OWC Mercury Elite Pro Qx2: Pro: fast, cheap, simple RAID 5.  Can get this with 8T for $725!!.  Con: requires matched drives, unknown support, they are not a data storage company.  Comes with Barracuda drives, not WD RED drives as I would prefer.

Synology DS413: $500.  Fast network device.  Accepts unmatched drives.  Very good reputation. $950 with 4 2T WD RED drives.

Synology DS1512+: $800.  Same as above, supports extension to 15 drives.  initial box supports 5.

Thinking about it some more, I think the additional $200 for an additional bay with expand-ability and dual ethernet ports (I have a smart switch that can do LAG) is the way to go.  Now to find someone who will sell it to me for a good price.  Amazon might be reasonable.

Unbelievable.  How can these people even be in congress, let alone on the science committee?

I don't know if I should cry or laugh hysterically ... it's down right embarrassing.
