Good Monday morning everyone. Here's a new image from last fall, latest posting on 500px. Take a look if like. Have a wonderful day everyone!
Mesquite dunes of death valley with the Amargosa Mountains in the distance. Curves, patterns, and shadows captured and contrasted in the moonlight. A single cloud hangs above, serenading the evening landscape. Thank you so much for viewing! Dream Canyon

Zion National Park, Utah

Preface - Over shot, yes! Amazing to experience, even though I had seen hundreds of images of it, yes! Did I present a unique version of this icon, I hope so. You be the judge. I haven't seen the entire cavern captured with this massive field of view. It wasn't an easy task (photographing and stitching/processing)

This is what you get to see after roughly 5 miles of strenuous hiking through 45°F water. I’ve been meaning to get to this area since 2005. Finally, after ten years, it worked out. What your seeing here is a stitch of four images at 14mm. Each image consists of 7 bracketed shots to fully cover the massive dynamic range present. I’ve seen dozens of images from this spectacular area, but none of them encompassed the entire view. ( or prepared me for the sheer awe of this incredible place ) When I arrived I could see why. It’s MUCH bigger than I imagined. I wanted to capture then entire cavern, including the all of the green pool. Having been to Zion a couple times, and finally getting out to the remote North Creek area, I have to say it was so rewarding and quite worth the effort.

Processing / blending these shots was tricky. Stitching together 14mm images is not easy IMHO. As for the 7 exposures... I typically start on one end of the histogram, and manually adjust one stop at a time encompassing the entire exposure range without clipping the highlight or shadow points. Yes, I could have gone with possibly two images, but in my experience, the image turns out much more natural and clean in the end. The colors are slightly enhanced, to create more chroma separation from all the amazing hues present. In fact, recalling the experience to this wonderful location is like a dream. I wouldn't mind standing in that frigid cold water right now.

Thanks for looking.

Frozen in Devils Lake

A colorful fall oak-tree leaf frozen on the icy surface at Devils Lake State Park, WI. A VERY difficult exposure. (Taken last March, finally had a chance to process )

Three exposures for this image ( all at 14mm )
One shot for the leaf ( it's only inches away from the lens ),
One shot for the overall scene ( shot at a -1/2 stop - focussed at infinity ),
One shot for the sunburst ( usually f/22 slightly over exposed )

Candyland #3

Hi there. Spent a couple weeks down in the Southwest photographing some of the amazing National Park icons. Every time I visit its like seeing for the first time. Such spectacular scenery.

This image is a composite of 4 images stitched together. While processing the photos I used some techniques that give a slight painterly effect. Modern DSLR cameras are designed to add way too much contrast for my liking. Much of the subtleties are lost. So in processing the photo I delicately brought back much of the faint highlight and shadow details that typically get lost. Thanks for looking !

Here's an image I've been sitting on since the March trip to the South West. This #grandcanyon photo was taken high on a perch at the end of the day. The last rays of light catching the distance peaks. The feelings you have when witnessing such natural outdoor beauty is exactly the opposite of sitting at a computer desk ( like I am right now). I long to be back on that ledge. Have a great day everyone!
An isolated view of the canyon peaks against the distant Colorado Plateau. Last sunset light of day creating a warm glow in the sky surrounded by the texturous canyon walls carved by the Colorado River. Thank you so much for viewing! Here's Sunday nights blood super harvest mega hyper moon, as seen from my back yard. You may not prefer, but I like framing the moon with something for scale, for placement, and for mood. I think the landscape below helps with that. Also, the stars give a sense of wonder. Three exposures.

"Canyon of the Gods"

Deep in the back country of Zion National Park you'll find some amazing canyons. Here is an image of the Subway ( Popular among photographers, but little known to many ) This is what you get to see after roughly 5 miles of strenuous hiking through 45°F water... At the end of the trail lies an amazing geological feature, eroded-carved curved stone that resembles the subway. I've been meaning to get to this area since 2005. Finally, after ten years, it worked out. For my photographer friends, here's the image info: What your seeing here is a stitch of two horizontal 14mm FOV's. Each FOV consists of 9 bracketed shots to fully cover the massive dynamic range present.

Not Afraid to Live Not Afraid to Die. Here's my website ( A group I put together a couple of years ago) www.commercialfineart.com ) Photography, for me, is a mixed bag of juxtaposing ideals and intent. My photographic imagery is a study and exploration, more so an experience into creative pursuits that provide unending joy, passion, and healing. Traveling, meeting & listening to people, experiencing new locations and cultures. Enlightenment through adventure, and discernment by re-evaluating possible jejune prejudice of how I thought the “world” “is” or exists. Experience happens to be the best mentor for me. What do I attempt to communicate with my photography ? I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t partially motivated by impressionable validation. Additionally, while the capture stage is “experiencing & humble learning” based, post processing (development) is incessantly deliberate in intention and temper. Again, the final creation will never have a tangible and regimented recipe; a juxtaposed outcome based on memory, mood, emotion, intention, and predilection. I relish in whatever disposition my journey & spirit brings
