Do you HDR? Maybe late at night when everyone else is in bed, you sneak onto your computer and merge a few images. Everyone does it, but most people won't admit it.

Not me... I make HDRs all the time. I do it during the day. I've made them in coffee shops, in front of my kids, and even in videos!

Recently my friend and awesome writer/photographer +Jeff Carlson hooked me up with the fun folks at Macphun. They make the amazing HDR application, Aurora HDR, which I have been using on almost all of my images since it launched. I recorded a video for them to use in a campaign encouraging photographers to switch.

Check it out and give Aurora a try. You have nothing to be ashamed of!

There is a lovely hotel in Newport, Oregon that is disguised as a quirky B&B. It sits on the bluff overlooking the ocean in the Nye Beach neighborhood and I stayed there for two nights on a photography workshop I lead out on the coast last week. This is a shot of my room on the second night, the Jules Verne Room. Each room in the Sylvia Beach Hotel is decorated to honor a specific author. The entire place is a shrine to reading as there are no televisions or phones. Just lots and lots of books, awesome rooms, and several cats who roam around looking for friends.

Super Dooper Blood Moon over Portland

I had to arrive 90 minutes early to claim my spot, but it was worth it. Here's my Super Blood Moon shot from tonight.

When you get the chance to sit and watch a true master at work, you take it. This is Gregory Heisler working portraiture magic with $60 work of Home Depot shop lights at the Gulf Photo Plus Seattle event this weekend.

There is this great set of old pilings in Bandon, Oregon that I have been watching decay for years. It seems each passing year brings more barnacles, grass and rot. Each winter, a few of the pilings give in to the relentless tide. The pilings were most likely the foundation for a riverside sawmill. Bandon was a bustling sawmill town from the early 1900's to the 1960's. Now the town is known for its golf and great photography spots.
