FAREWELL - Fr. Vincent Doyle

Our goodbyes were filed with joy and tinged with sadness that Father Doyle will no longer be with us. He is with his Heavenly Father that he has longed to be with for the past few years and I thank everyone for their prayer vigils and masses that were offered for his journey towards eternal life. We will miss him as our Founder. His Fatherly love, wisdom, kindness, compassion and gentleness. A big man with a large heart that filled a room with his charismatic presence that proclaimed Jesus loves you as you are.
What an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life as a parish priest and for six years a missionary in Papua New Guinea. On a Sabbatical in Rome he attended a Charismatics Confer-ence. Returning to Australia he began to promote Charismatic Prayer Groups and offer Heal-ing Masses throughout the Lismore Diocese. He personally experienced the healing power of the Holy Spirit from the effects of his missionary activities in Papua and was introduced to the prayer of inner healing through Father Francis McNutt. Growing in God’s love and maturing in the gifts of the Holy Spirit became his life’s work of outreach and teaching to all who came for prayer ministry.
He recognised how we were are all spiritually wounded through our life experiences. A need existed within the Church to provide a support network for the spiritually burdened and op-pressed which he called God’s Anawim. Father Doyle’s outreach was an enormous undertaking and mission that consumed his life and love for God. I have worked with him for thirty nine years and witnessed personally his public and hidden ministry of always being available to those in spiritual need or distress.
Behind the hidden life of being a parish priest and his Chaplaincies to Charismatics Renewal, Beginnings Experience ( ministry for the separated, divorced and widowed ) Kairos (Prison Ministry) Cursillo ( Leadership training ) Natural Family Planning, Magpie Group ( outreach for reconciliation of black and white walking together ) his
holidays involved retreats and seminars to many parishes throughout Australia and overseas. (China, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, America, India and England.) His one desire was to bring the gift of salvation and God’s peace to those he ministered to.
He always considered the fruit of his ministry was the canonical approval of Mary of the An-gelus Association as a private association of Christ’s faithful in accordance with church law (CIC cannon 299 -3 ) in 2013 on the Feast of the Visitation.
This recognition links the Association with the Church in a special way. In being recognized the members of the Association are reminded of the “criteria of ecclesiality” spoken by St Pope John Paul 11 in Christifedeles laici: of the primacy given to the call of every Christian to holi-ness; of the responsibility of professing the Catholic faith; of the witness to a strong and authen-tic communion with the Pope and the local Bishop; of conformity to and participation in the Church’s apostolic goals, and of a commitment to a presence in human society. Since the inau-gural day of 25th March 1996 Mary of the Angelus Association has spread its wings throughout Australia and overseas. Like angels the members aspire to be in God’s service bringing hope with God’s healing words of life through prayer and outreach.
