Gratitude for Thanksgiving blessings of being at midlife, and how very powerful that truly is .. “On a Facebook forum, midlife women wrote why they valued being at the place they were in life, and…”

* On The Complex Virality Of Radical Kindness: A Personal Challenge & How To Create A Movement *

What is one simple thing you can do today to practice radical kindness? That is, kindness for its own sake, not for reward or recompense. Today, I impulsively bought coffee for the guy behind me in line, as he kindly gave me his place. "I'm buying Next Coffee today" I told him "what'll you have?" and was rewarded with an astonished look of shy pleasure. It was a split second decision that resulted in making him feel special and made me feel better than a truckload of Prozac.

As I encouraged him to load up with syrup and "extra whip", the shy smile on his face broadened into a huge grin. Then as I whispered "Pass it on, brother!" I watched his grin grow even bigger to match mine, as the sad looking little old lady behind him brightened up, laughed, and gratefully accepted a mocha with extra whip upgrade. Cue a chain reaction that was still going when I left, with people connecting, sharing bits of their lives and talking together, that had baristas and customers alike chuckling with delight.

The bottom line of radical kindness is it tells the other person "Hey, you matter to me. I don't even know you, but I like you. Have a great day, friend!" For many people, that will be the most positive and loving message they get all day.

I mean to extend this even further by continuing random and simple acts of radical kindness that function with increasingly complex virality, by inviting recipients to do likewise. That is to say, viral kindnesses which extend through lines and groups of people like the coffee-comping of today.

The line of kindness begun today might be perpetuated in Los Angeles, Memphis, New York, London or New Delhi. It may go around the world dozens of times. It might stop violence, turn a life on the edge towards the good and positive, and/or encourage healing forgiveness. You never know. And its origins are so simple.

I invite you to join me in a Kindness practice. Just once is good, but daily is better. How will you encourage random (and hopefully viral) Kindness? And how will you keep that movement going?

Soo....this happened. Remembering from childhood not being a cream-hog and shaking the carton to mix the cream in. Then as now, like Mom did, I transferred the whole carton to a Tupperware plastic jug making it less messy to shake up. Carefully scraped the clotted cream from the sides of the waxed paper carton, resisting the tremendous temptation to cram the lot in my mouth chased by a bite of scone (Resist, Grasshopper!) and lobbed it into the jug.

Licked the spoon though, because #MyPerogative. And shared the bulk of the small cream jugs with my trainer because, CLA, and he's a slender rock-muscled sort. I look at this stuff and 10# magically adheres to my hips. But damn, it was good in my PG Tips and Twinings Darjeeling! ❤☕
