#UrbanHymn opens in the UK tomorrow.
A startling portrait of girls at risk, with a magnificent performance by gonna-be-a-star Letitia Wright. Lovely, moving, utterly unsentimental.

#DeepwaterHorizonMovie opens Thu in the UK, Fri in the US and Canada. It is all the good things.
MaryAnn’s quick take… Immensely intense and suspenseful. Disaster filmmaking at its most gripping, yet there is nothing in the least bit exploitive or sensationalized about it.

#GirlWithAllTheGifts opens in the UK on Friday. I pity my US and Canadian readers, who don't even have an ETA on when they can see this, one of the best films of the year so far.
MaryAnn’s quick take… Stakes out its own fresh place in an SF subgenre that is well played out, and rehumanizes it ways that are both extraordinarily moving and deeply unnerving.

#TheBeatlesEightDaysAWeek opens tonight in the UK, tomorrow in the US and Canada (and will be on Hulu in the US from September 17th).
MaryAnn’s quick take… There’s not a lot new here, but the vintage footage is fab, as is the much-needed reminder that the supposedly innocent past was hardly innocent at all.

#BlairWitch opens Thursday in the UK, Friday in the US and Canada.
MaryAnn’s quick take… An entirely superfluous attempt to recapture the magic of the original film. A remake masquerading as a sequel that goes nowhere and has nothing new to say.

#Mag7 is now playing in the US, Canada, and the UK. Spend your money elsewhere.
MaryAnn’s quick take… Humorless, rote, clichéd, and entirely unsurprising. Antoine Fuqua attempts to recapture old Hollywood magic — and fails — rather than create his own.

#FindingAltamira opens in limited release in the US tomorrow, and will also be available on demand in the US and Canada.
MaryAnn’s quick take… Couched in a tale of scientific discovery is a lovely portrait of a father-daughter relationship grounded in intellect and curiosity, a rare thing onscreen.

#BridgetJonessBaby opens Friday in the US, Canada, and the UK.
MaryAnn’s quick take… The desperation, the neuroticism, and the idiocy of Bridget Jones continues to be appalling, not appealing. She is not the everywoman she is meant to be.

#HellOrHighWater is now playing in the US, Canada, and the UK.
MaryAnn’s quick take… Alongside plenty of heist-movie humor and suspense is a bleak fatalism grounded in depressing reality and resignation to the miserable necessity it demands.
