I am aware of a number of TBI support groups which use facebook as a communications platform, which is pretty good.  I think more can be done though.  The VA / DOD should have many potential folks who could benefit, but the DOD and VA tend to be somewhat separate in how they view the beneficiaries.  I’m not a doctor, nor even a licensed healthcare professional, but I am passionate about trying to help the community.  I’ve net a few vets who I think would be good mentors to other newerly injured individuals if a program were to get established.  It’s possible that it needn’t be veteran focused, but that may be easier as far as getting it funded, or whatever.  I tried reaching out to vet centers up the east coast, up the west coast and across the southern tier of states, but funding was viewed as a complicating factor.  TBI is a pretty geographically dispersed phenomena.  I thought the NYS study on TBI Mentoring Partnership Program was interesting, but I’m not sure that things are moving forward or what.

I’d love to get a support group going that uses technology to facilitate connections.  I don’t think I have any “in’s” with various technology/communications companies, but it would be a very positive thing, I think, and probably could be done without a great deal of effort required.  But what do I know?  I’m just a computer guy at a Hospital who happens to also be a TBI survivor of 33 years, who sees the potential good.  I’m also a MS trained librarian, but I’ve got most of my experience working with technology.

Not that I know of.  Are you looking to try to set up a support group?

For what it may be worth, VA Outpatient clinics might be staffed at lower levels than medical centers.  VA Outpatient clinics might not have enough providers.  I don't know of the situation in North Georgia.

Dorie and Nemo's Dad on stage of Finding Nemo: the musical. I was a bit set back at how scatter brained Dorie was portrayed as being. I associate being scatter brained with concussions and other head injuries. I doubt that was the intent.

Introduction
I speak somewhat slower than the national average.  This is a result of a traumatic brain injury I sustained when I was eleven.  I am sure that I am not the best example of what a successful rehabilitation can look like, but I am passionate about providing others with opportunities to help.
I was provided with an opportunity to apply for a position at a hospital where I work, to be the social media coordinator, which I thought would be really cool.  I applied, but alas was not selected.  Working in Public Relations would have been pretty cool, but I suppose that there are other opportunities out there.  The interview process was interesting.
