Okay, Martin. SMPlayer hit every branch on it's fall from the ugly tree... but VLC is one of your options. We've been disagreeing on this since the boutique dropped in... what was it? 15.10 cycle? That's fine. I guess I'll vote for Gnome MPV.24w
I always add VLC to a PC that needs video tools (streaming, screen capture, playing, etc.) but I do see it as a tool rather than a default player for the norms. It fails on some formats (but so do others - I have several installed to ensure I can play everything) and is a bit awkward to use and not necessarily intuitive. Given the points Martin makes about dependencies, VLC should not be default but easily added by user, e.g. via Boutique. (I say this despite VLC being my first choice / go-to player. I guess I am not a norm!)24w
+Artem A. Audience is written for Ubuntu 16.04 only . . . essentially anything made for elementaryOS is locked to elementaryOS in this kind of situation.23w
I recognize that VLC uses Qt, but let's face it - anyone who wants the universal media player is going to install VLC, Qt or not. If basically everyone is going to install it anyway, it's going to make zero difference to download size, even if the ISO is smaller. Unless you can get the ISO to fit in 700MB, there's not much point removing VLC from the ISO for the sake of saving space. HiDPI is a good goal, but honestly, function before form. VLC should stay to perform its function.23w
