In any objective history of Israel, Rehavam (“Gandhi”) Ze’evi wouldn’t warrant a footnote. And while he may have been a martyr, he was certainly no saint. But the important point of the episode described at the link is that distorters can’t yet steal the legacy of 1948. A few old veterans of the Palmah live on and they remember. It’s also why Ari Shavit’s book, with its defamation of the Palmah in Lydda, never appeared in Hebrew. But when the old fighters are gone, who will fend off the distorters on left and right?
