I've always loved the idea of indexes - a collection of securities that make it on and off a list based on a well-defined set of rules. As I tried to image what a hypothetical "Drashkov Index" would l...

Good review of Kytephone
I spent some time with Kytephone during an afternoon. The idea of a kid-friendly smartphone is interesting. But does it hold up?

We launched Kyte two weeks ago and were extremely pleased with the positive reception it received. Many parents emailed us to tell us how glad they were someone was finally solving a problem both they...

Lots of startups offer services of various kinds, but what's the next step? What's even more valuable?
I've been reading the book Regenesis by George M. Church, which provides a great overview of where the biotech industry is heading by an author with ample academic and entrepreneurial experience. In o...

I'm suspicious of the app simply because it is free.  There must be embedded ads or some other evil hidden away inside.

Check out my buddies' great new addition to the best Tetris game out there.
Those features are what we're trying to make easy with Clay.io. http://clay.io/docs - Let me know what you think and if you would have used the API if you had known about it. If not, I'd like ...

I just installed Kyte on the hand-me-down no service phones I gave my sons for Christmas. This is the first solution that I have found that locks down the phone and can't be bypassed by the search button or some other trickery.

The features are still very basic, but the design is good and it seems to be working well over WiFi.

When my boys finally earn their phones back they are going to be a bit angry with me. Especially since I can find out exactly what apps they are using and when.

Why you need strong public research (including the taxes to pay for it):

"If SpaceX’s progress sometimes seems like a 21st century replay of NASA’s early history, that’s partly because the company has greatly benefited from the space agency’s vast technical archive. “We’re standing on the shoulders of giants,” Mueller says. “With the Apollo program they learned so much. And we can get access to all that. We use that tremendously. A private company in a vacuum could not do what we did.”

Here's an interesting project I've been working on for a few weeks: a 23" Android 'tablet' that cost me $600.

Hi +Jamey Marrs  , it is definitely possible, although you'd need a rooted phone. Check out my blog entry here: http://martin.drashkov.com/2012/02/how-to-make-23-android-megapad.html, but the essential step in this is compiling the linux kernel with touchscreen drivers. The kernel already comes with a bunch of touchscreen drivers, so it's a matter of finding them and uncommenting them to compile them in. I think it'd be awesome to have a Tesla-like touchscreen in a regular car, good luck with it.
