All the more reason to use public transport. Unfortunately it is not as convenient as it should be and is not accessible in other places, especially where I live.

How Muscles work #Training   #fitness

How Protein Becomes Muscle

Digestion: Enzymes in your stomach and small intestines break the protein into peptides, combinations of at least two or three amino acids (a.k.a your body's building blocks). Then other enzymes further dice the peptides into individual amino acids.

Transport: The amino acids travel directly from your gastrointestinal tract to your liver via the hepatic portal vein. While the liver's main job is to detoxify the blood, it also propels amino acids back into your bloodstream for delivery to your muscles.

Response: Your muscles are essentially bundles of long fibers. Strength training cause microtears in these fibers that signal your immune system to send out a work crew (growth hormone and stem cells) and repair material (amino acids) to the damaged areas.

Construction: Your DNA acts as a construction foreman: It calls up specific amino acids, directs their deployment, and assigns their roles. The muscle fiber work crew uses the fresh supply of amino acids to weave myofibrils; these are bundles of the protein filaments myosin and actin, which are critical to muscle contraction.
Repair And Growth: The newly made myofibrils fuse with the damaged areas of your muscle fibers. But microtear repair is more than just a patch job: These myofibrils also help make the muscle bigger and stronger than it was before. Time to flex.

Finally found this again, The Egg By: Andy Weir. worth the read/watch, trust me.

You were on your way home when you died.

It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.
And that’s when you met me.

“What… what happened?” You asked. “Where am I?”

“You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.

“There was a… a truck and it was skidding…”

“Yup,” I said.

“I… I died?”

“Yup. But don’t feel bad about it. Everyone dies,” I said.

You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. “What is this place?” You asked. “Is this the afterlife?”

“More or less,” I said.

“Are you god?” You asked.

“Yup,” I replied. “I’m God.”

“My kids… my wife,” you said.

“What about them?”

“Will they be all right?”

“That’s what I like to see,” I said. “You just died and your main concern is for your family. That’s good stuff right there.”

You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn’t look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.

“Don’t worry,” I said. “They’ll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn’t have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it’s any consolation, she’ll feel very guilty for feeling relieved.”

“Oh,” you said. “So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?”

“Neither,” I said. “You’ll be reincarnated.”

“Ah,” you said. “So the Hindus were right,”

“All religions are right in their own way,” I said. “Walk with me.”
You followed along as we strode through the void. “Where are we going?”

“Nowhere in particular,” I said. “It’s just nice to walk while we talk.”

“So what’s the point, then?” You asked. “When I get reborn, I’ll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won’t matter.”

“Not so!” I said. “You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don’t remember them right now.”

I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It’s like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it’s hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you’ve gained all the experiences it had.

“You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you’d start remembering everything. But there’s no point to doing that between each life.”

“How many times have I been reincarnated, then?”

“Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives.” I said. “This time around, you’ll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD.”

“Wait, what?” You stammered. “You’re sending me back in time?”

“Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from.”

“Where you come from?” You said.

“Oh sure,” I explained “I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you’ll want to know what it’s like there, but honestly you wouldn’t understand.”

“Oh,” you said, a little let down. “But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point.”

“Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don’t even know it’s happening.”

“So what’s the point of it all?”

“Seriously?” I asked. “Seriously? You’re asking me for the meaning of life? Isn’t that a little stereotypical?”

“Well it’s a reasonable question,” you persisted.
I looked you in the eye. “The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature.”

“You mean mankind? You want us to mature?”

“No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect.”

“Just me? What about everyone else?”

“There is no one else,” I said. “In this universe, there’s just you and me.”

You stared blankly at me. “But all the people on earth…”

“All you. Different incarnations of you.”

“Wait. I’m everyone!?”

“Now you’re getting it,” I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.

“I’m every human being who ever lived?”

“Or who will ever live, yes.”

“I’m Abraham Lincoln?”

“And you’re John Wilkes Booth, too,” I added.

“I’m Hitler?” You said, appalled.

“And you’re the millions he killed.”

“I’m Jesus?”

“And you’re everyone who followed him.”

You fell silent.

“Every time you victimized someone,” I said, “you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you’ve done, you’ve done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you.”

You thought for a long time.

“Why?” You asked me. “Why do all this?”

“Because someday, you will become like me. Because that’s what you are. You’re one of my kind. You’re my child.”

“Whoa,” you said, incredulous. “You mean I’m a god?”

“No. Not yet. You’re a fetus. You’re still growing. Once you’ve lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born.”

“So the whole universe,” you said, “it’s just…”

“An egg.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to move on to your next life.”

And I sent you on your way.

Suburb Goes Online

Greymont is a small suburb in Johannesburg, but don't be embarrassed if you have never heard of it. It's OK.

Really great place for a healthy lunch!! they have a unique menu with amazing food, I really love going here. I had a Caesar Salad with Feta fritters last time and it was amazing which is an impressive thing to say about one of the most common salads but it was great. It's reasonably priced, especially for how eclectic their food is and the vibe is always laid back and chilled. It has a slight feminine feel to it, which I'm sure is due to the two ladies who own and run the place. I can't remember their names but one was more the inspirational cook and the other was the lively and welcoming host.

Really great place to take in the trendy Rosebank vibe. Get there early though for Lunch as it is always packed and they don't do bookings. The food is good though a bit more pricey than it should be, the coffee is great though. The outside area is really nice but I love the inside because they have this really cool décor idea of hanging books from the ceiling. The waiters are a chance some are awesome while others act if they are doing you a phenomenal favour but I guess that goes with many restaurants, I just really notice it here.

Great place to chill and have a coffee while watching people walk by. It's located just on the corner of the alley way through the zone leading to the outside courtyard. The barista's are quite lively and very friendly every time I see them. Not sure if all the Vida E Caffe's get their baked goods from the same place but I highly recommend their Large Choc-Chip Cookies, they are a bit pricey (considering they are just one cookie) but they are really delicious.

I wanted to propose to my girlfriend by the fire place (to show the ring in the flickering light) in Moyo's, a favourite of ours since I had taken her there on our first date. I called 2 days before the official day and booked to have the table in front of the fire and have rose petals on the table. On the day, as we walked in and the waiter directs us to our table, I see that not only is it without any rose petals but its been moved to the small side wall perpendicular to the fire (you can't even see it, never mind feel the warmth from there). What they had done instead was, in front of the fireplace I had asked and booked for they had a large 6 seater ready and reserved. I guess they thought they would get more money out of the new booking so they just shoved our lowly 2 seater reservation aside. Naturally I was livid as my plans for the climax of an elaborate day of planning events culminating in a beautiful dinner in what I thought was a top level restaurant turned out to be a massive slap in the face. I was not about to ruin our night by making a big fuss at the time, but was certainty not going to repay the restaurants shameless greed and insult with patronage so I just told the waiter I was very disappointed with them and left. I chose to propose to her beside the lake, after I collected myself and made sure she couldn't see how upset I was (She said yes by the way) but I assure you, I will never forget nor will we ever dine in this establishment again! You would have had regulars, most certainly for all anniversaries and engagement parties but instead I will tell any one who will listen that Moyo's could care less about service to customers, and will, without hesitation, drop patrons if they see a chance to get more cash elsewhere.

The PRESTIGE CINEMA!!! Seriously, this is by far the best cinema around. Now to clarify, I'm not saying it's the prestige cinema as in it's the elite one, they actually have a few (10 I think) but they have made one cinema special and called it the Prestige Cinema and wow, just WOW. The way they've set this place up is that there are only a few seats available this is because each seat is a massive fully reclining lazy-boy chair. They have a separate lounge complete with an exclusive booth for selling popcorn etc . The best part though, at least for me, is that you can order cappachino's with cake and they will deliver it to you at your seat and place it on your own little table just before the movie starts. Warning: It will ruin you cinema experience in all lesser plebeian level cinemas from then on.

Brilliant qualified friendly service. I wanted to start riding for fitness and save on petrol, so researched a bit (The world of bicycles has changed massively since we were kids by the way) so I had a rough idea of what I wanted. Walked into the lively store and was greeted by ample ready staff, one of whom by the name Ozi helped me out. First asking what kind of bike I was looking for and then finding the right size and model for me and my beginner's budget. It was great, he recommended riding around the back courtyard to get a feel for the bike to make sure it was right for me and as luck would have it Ozi's recommendation felt great! He also helped me out with the necessary starter accessories such as a helmet, pump, water bottle etc all of which he volunteered to open and attach to the bike. So now I have a brand new, reasonably priced, mountain bike. Oh yeah, and I'll be back, since they give you a few complimentary bicycle services when you buy from them. Really great atmosphere and awesome staff!
