Something I hadn't tried grabbed my attention at a nice little liquor shop in Oregon a few weeks ago. Not too spendy, I believe around $25? Quite good; smooth, classic bourbon start to finish, rocks, water or neat this stuff was pleasing and a solid value. Love trying random microstill spirits!

I've been doing a lot of cocktail mixing lately, which involves going through handles of decent whiskey such as Old Grandad and Two Stars, so I haven't opened anything special from the whiskey cellar for a while. (If you're interested in what I've been mixing, check my Instagram, https://instagram.com/nerdmarshall/)

To celebrate Independence Day, I decided to pick something interesting to sip on. Went with a bottle of Menomonee Valley Rye by Great Lakes Distillery. I've been wanting to try this for a long time, and since I had two bottles in the cellar, figured I'd give it a shot finally. It's a fantastic rye, very well rounded and pretty much just what I was expecting. I started with it neat, which was excellent, lots of good, solid rye flavor up front and a very balanced finish. Later I added ice, which was very complimentary, bringing out a little more of the straight rye flavor, opening up the nose substantially, mellowing out the overall experience, and allowing some of the more subtle wood and vanilla flavors to move to the front of the overall experience.

I'm glad I opened this, and I'm certainly glad I have another bottle in the cellar. It isn't, like, amazing or incredible, but it's a good, solid small batch rye that is easy to enjoy. I love whiskies like this, and I definitely recommend giving it a shot if you ever see it on the shelf of your local liquor store. And if not, there are plenty of other American whiskies out there that are easily in the same ballpark as this one.

Cheers! And happy Independence Day!

Blue Ridge Georgia Sour Mash

Never seen it before, was just $25 which gave me the impression it was worth a shot; not trying to be too fancy but priced high enough that it should at least be drinkable. I actually haven't had a bad whiskey in the $20-30 range in quite some time, and I frequently drink Two Star, Winchester, and Old Grandad (not to mention Old Overholt which is about $12 a bottle). So I fully expected this to be decent and maybe even pretty good.

I was wrong. Terribly wrong. This is one of the worst whiskies I have ever tasted. I'd rather drink Jim Beam than this garbage. I'm literally going to attempt to return it to the liquor store this afternoon because it is so unbelievably disgusting. I had one small drink (pictured) and really hoped that maybe it would open up or get a bit more mild with ice, but it just didn't. I finished it anyway, and the next morning I had a splitting headache. From one drink.

It's sour, it's awful, it's harsh and flat and has no character and no maturity. Don't buy this. You're better off spending half as much and sipping Old Overholt or Rebel Yell.

Next time I post here it will be something that's actually worth trying, I promise!

So cool.
Though I have a few webpages online, I often don't find the time to keep them all up to date. My site at SoundClick is one of those that I visit only occasionally but today, I was surprised to find that my song "She's Trouble" is #11 among 3,350 songs in the Country Blues charts there and #74 among 55,199 songs in their Blues chart. That's the top .13% of all Blues posted there and the top .33% of all Country Blues songs. Not bad for a guy who plays a guitar that he made from repurposed recycled junk!

I just want a smartphone that can go at least an entire day without recharging. And under what I consider to be normal use.

Friend of mine has an Audi R8, but with the V8 (rather than the V10). He took me for a virtual ride via Hangouts yesterday but we only hit 120mph. In this vid the driver reaches 170mph, and he has an impressive amount of control over the car at those speeds. Enjoy!

Seems like everything +Shael Riley touches is musical gold. I still listen to Bioavailable on a regular basis (http://uvu.im/bGe), but I love when he releases a cover like this. #music

Anyone else having battery drain issues since the 2.9 OTA update? My Pebble seems to be burning through its battery 2-3x faster than before I updated.
