Does marriage counseling work? We hear from thousands of people every year about their marriages. From those who convinced their spouses to go to marriage counseling, we very often hear how the experience hurt their marriage rather than helped.

Marriage Helper changed our lives...literally. Our marriage was on one path, and thankfully, with the assistance of Marriage Helper, that course changed. Marriage Helper brought us together and equipped us with tools to know each other (and ourselves!) better; they also showed us what practical things we could do to grow and deepen our relationship. If you're reading this, maybe your marriage needs help. If so, contact them. Even if you think your problems or situation is beyond help or repair, contact them anyway. If your marriage is great, consider making it better! It does not matter if you've been married for a few months, or decades! Marriage Helper staff is beyond caring, compassionate, non-judgmental, and willing to assist you in any way they are able. They truly have a heart and a gift to serve marriages. On a personal note, Joe and Alice are especially dear to us and we are so thankful for them.

Attending Marriage Helper 911 was the turning point in our marriage. I truly believe without this ministry and Joe’s, we would be divorced. We learned tools to stop the crazy fighting. Until we learned this, we could not re-learn healthy communication. It has been a long process for us, but one that was well worth the time and effort.

Dear Husband and I completed the "New Beginnings" weekend twelve years ago. Since that time we have sent 3-5 couples per year to Marriage Helper. The New Beginning has since been upgraded to "Marriage Helper 911". Unlike the other couples on our weekend, we were not having any particular relationship problems. However, we had the complications of husband's previous marriage/divorce history with my never-married history. We had been married for four years at the time. I honestly recommend that every couple complete this seminar. And the earlier in the marriage the better. The best way to describe what happened with us is that we were transformed from friends-with-benefits to a fully integrated, interdependent married couple. Neither of us gave up our own independence or identity while both of us melded into the other. You will find research-based communication tools in the areas of intimacy, communication, sexology, theology, social psychology and recreation. You will learn skills to ask questions in a way that grows your privacy and friendship with your spouse, instead of accusing, alienating or putting your partner on a defensive tight-rope. During and after that weekend, DH and I realised three mountainous, and I mean enormous, bucket-list goals that we did not even know existed! My over-all favourite part of that weekend was completing our life-maps and then talking over using guided questions. When DH and I did this, we discovered several life-markers and life-goals that we had misunderstood. This one facet changed our geography and professions. It was a gigantic change..and not a direction that either of us had "agreed on" during pre-marriage counselling five years earlier. You could actually say that our entire career progression was altered after that weekend. This weekend did not exactly "save our marriage" because we were not headed in a particularly disastrous trajectory. But it definitely did save our marriage in the sense that, even more than a decade later, we continue to have deep love and respect within the boundaries of our marriage. By continuing to improve the patterns begun that weekend, we do not have any secrets. And therefore, we do not have any reputation with each other. All of our faults, epic fails, hopes, dreams, successes and inner fears are out in the open with each other. "Warts and All" as the Texans might say….and this has enabled us to secure our marriage with no blind spots. As I said, that was more than a decade ago and Marriage Helper has abandoned, improved or replaced most of the content of that particular weekend. So if you attend MH911 today, you will get the evidence-based strategies. You absolutely will not regret investing in this 3-day game changer.

Two years ago me and my wife took the "Love Path 911" course that was being offered at our Church. At that time our marriage was on the brink of divorce. The course really opened our eyes as to how to start loving one another again. This course does not promise that someone will have a perfect marriage afterwards. Believe me we still have our "moments" every now and then. However, Joe given us the tools to become more accepting of each others faults because we know that we are not intentionally trying hurting one another. The only thing that I would have done differently would have been to have read the "Your love path" book before taking the class. That way I could have focused a little more on Joe's experience, strength, and hope as it relates to marriage. Thanks to Joe and Alice for helping us to realize that we needed to give each other and our marriage a second chance.

We have known Joe Beam for some time now and honestly he is the real deal. After going through marriage difficulties of our own, we decided to take part of the 911 workshop. We are so glad we did! We learned so much from those three days about not how wrong the other person was but how wrong we were individually. We gained great insight on how to better our marriage and create a lasting love. We encourage any couple at any stage of their marriage to make an investment and attend a Marriage Helper workshop. If you are willing to be honest about your issues, it may be the best decision you make for your marriage, it was ours!

This amazing three day program resurrected my marriage! After spending way too much money on marriage counseling and hating every second of it, I begrudgingly attended this course ONLY because a friend had already paid for it. Unlike counseling, this program focused on what we could change about ourselves, rather than rehashing everything that we were doing to make each other miserable. Rather than leaving angry, embarrassed and bitter...we fell in love again and are happily married seven years later!!! GO! You will NEVER regret it!

Eight years ago my husband and I attended Joe's "New Beginning" marriage retreat. It was life changing. We could not seem to let go of some heavy baggage. The most helpful strategies for us were, "Life Map", "the Four Horsemen" and "Stress Reducing Conversation". The personality of the class was also powerful in that we were surrounded by real people at various stages of marriage with various levels of trauma and health. We completed all of our homework during and after the three days and that seems to be key to permanent contentment with each other. All these years later we feel that each day is a "new beginning" and that the best is yet to come. Joe's retreat was the intervention we didn't know we needed.

Joe Beam's marriage books (Becoming One and Your LovePath) are absolutely wonderful! But also check out his books Seeing the Unseen and The True Heaven. Both are beyond fascinating! And if your marriage is in trouble his seminar is a Godsend!
