Take your science reading with a dose of scepticism // A recent study (http://stfi.re/gdbrby) suggests that a population boom in African states could bump the percentage of global French speakers from 3 percent to 8 percent, making it the world’s most commonly spoken language by 2050. This matches my current rate of learning the language! :)

Then again, the original Forbes article (http://stfi.re/gdbrby) notes: "The study’s methodology is somewhat questionable, since it counts as French-speakers all the inhabitants of countries where French is an official language, which probably won’t be the case. And almost certainly, as a second language, English will remain the lingua franca (pun intended)."
