The grand late-war German type XXIII U-Boat is finished! Yay!

This time I just share the final pics, nothing new was done anymore. People have had some issues comprehending the size of the model, so I took a few silly pics with other 1:35 scale models. Then I realized that not everyone has a clue of the size of a Königstiger model, either, so I took the last comparison shot with a dvd case.

All feedback, error-pointing and whatnot is most welcome, as always. Encouraged, even.

And right now I feel like taking a few weeks off scale modeling. Now for something completely different, as Monty Python say.

I'm just resharing my own post, doesn't make horribly much sense to try to rewrite the same three sentences in slightly different words. All in all: boat's just about done!

Weathering the U-Boat a bit. Hopefully in a moderate and not over-the-top fashion, nor way too little.
I'm practically done with the model, the final thoughts and photos are just waiting to be processed.

Weathering My plan was to keep this boat relatively fresh-looking, without a ton of battle-scars or years of mistreatmeant under horrible conditions. Despite that the salty sea-water should've left some marks on the surface, ...

Tinkering with last details, I hope, before I get to the weathering. We'll see.

I may have taken the final steps before the light weathering I've planned on doing. Sorry about the slowness, I blame it on the general darkness up here ;)

First real time post of 2015. Had to make it cool, eh? :p

Whee! I started the liferaft! It's not much but at least I got to do something after many weeks of vacationing and all :)

Returning from a vacation is always a slow process. For some reason I also seem to take a good while to get back to my projects. Nonetheless, I managed to kick myself up and working a bit on the inflatable raft. The last spru...

In Progress Pics  -

Last post of the year, before my vacation: a sneak peek.

Another example of shameless self-advertising: the meter-long type XXIII U-Boat is almost completed. Next year I'll finish the rubber boat (whatever it's point is) and the slight dirtification I have in mind for this model.

The couple of blog posts that lead to this are written but scheduled over my vacation. In case someone was interested.

Thanks! I almost finished it this year, which is a huge surprise, considering the size of the beast :)

My slightly anachronistic documentation keeps rolling like a torpedo in the water. As I noticed that priming the beast would've taken ages with the airbrush I invested into a rattlecanful of white primer. Then I painted the top with light grey (which looked damn dark in contrast with the white base) and proceeded to paint the bottom over a couple of iterations with dark sea grey.

Spoiler: I did things wrong and had to repaint the waterline.

A lenghtier explanation from the time this took place can be found here, as usual: http://projectmumblings.blogspot.com/2014/12/transitioning-to-painting-phase.html

I didn't think it was a lifeboat, but a multipurpose raft, hence the non-emergency colour :)

Actual work has been much more rapid than the updates, sorry 'bout that! I've just had the habit of typing something and then scheduling the posts instead of keeping it more real time. That's to compensate for those weeks I get nothing accomplished, thanks to this and that :)

My blog's quite a few steps behind the actual progress, thanks to the strange way I work/write, but such is life. The U-Boat is enormous and people have asked for something to help comprehending the scale. So here goes, thanks to Hans!

These photos contain traces of more or less cured putty and have little to do with how the model looks right now or later.
