First Western Buddhist monk, circa 1850's. Traveled around the world, was an atheist, freethinker and anti-theist, criticized religion/Christianity, was tried and persecuted for doing so, was lost to history, and  has now been found!

The #1 Predictor of success? "We’ve evolved to put people in our ingroup and outgroup. The process is a byproduct of our evolutionary history where we lived in small groups and strangers we didn’t know well weren’t to be trusted." But multiple, peer-reviewed studies show that, ingroups are "polarized echo chambers. simply being in an open network instead of a closed one is the best predictor of career success."

Also, "the paradoxical interplay of two seemingly opposite qualities; maniacal focus and insatiable curiosity..." [May be our most important qualities, as they lead to everything else.]

In December of 2013, I interviewed one of the world’s top network scientists, Ron Burt. During it, he shared a chart that completely flipped my understanding of success.

Secular Buddhism offers a path that is encompassing, humanistic, and pragmatic, without being sectarian.

+Mark W. Gura I have no personal convictions per se, yet there is enough qualitative evidence from great masters stating rebirth is a fact. The Dalai Lama for instance. Just because it can't be quantified doesn't mean it isn't so.

Chicago area TV Channel 17 interview: We talked about spirituality and meditation not needing pseudoscience, faith in God(s), gurus, and the supernatural.

Techniques such as mindfulness and vipassana meditation have been practiced for thousands of years, are corroborated by reason, psychology and neuroscience, and help develop a sense of compassion, charity and the pursuit of meaning and knowledge. These secular practices are consistent with the best science available and are perfect for atheists, skeptics, humanists, freethinkers, as well as all others who wish to practice spirituality without religion or reference to supernatural forces.
