The Lib Dem record, I think, was getting in a welcome call from the local party just under 45 minutes after someone had joined via the national website.

offering people a wide variety of public hire options benefits everyone by reducing private car traffic.   they are generally cheaper than black cabs precisely because they are not stuck with tfl's rates.  And I see no reason why cabbies should have the exclusive right of using a metered fare.

Yes they should be licensed (and they are, some nonsense about an illegal driver hacking the app is as likely as some illegal driver using a stolen hackney cab)

Even if Lib Dem membership hits 100,000, there will still a huge gap between the size of the party's membership and the size of a core vote the party needs.

For a tired, defeated activist in particular there is a certain logic to do less and do it better. But that gets the relationship between quality and volume wrong.

Note the farewell speech from Nick Clegg and also the speech from the leader of D66, Tim Farron's favourite example of a sister party hammered in coalition which then bounced back spectacularly.

Judging by the spam text messages I've received from them, the management of the place isn't all it should be - and disappointing that even when I rang up to ask to be removed from their marketing database, the person I spoke to didn't seem to be that concerned about whether they were keeping to the law on SMS marketing or not (though he did promise to remove my number from their records).
