Every few weeks Sir visits the shop - I give him what I like to think of as my usual courteous greeting - welcoming him to my store again - I don't pounce on Sir and demand to know what he wants - just a friendly greeting to let Sir know that I'm here and happy to help.  He always responds with a snort or a grunt.

I assumed that the snort/grunt was one of only a few communication options  - maybe he has a head injury or some type of verbal impairment - could be anything..    I choose to interpret the snort/grunt as his version of a  polite response within a normal daily human interaction with a fellow Victoria Street Hamilton denizen.  So I was quite surprised while out at lunch the other week to encounter Sir and witness him in a marvelously verbose conversation with a co-worker.

So today I greet Sir in my usual manner - this time maintaining eye contact and wait expecting a response.  To which I receive a "Snort/grunt"  and if I'm not mistaken a disdainful dismissive stare.   "Really?" I ask. "Hummph" he says.   We have progress... Snort/Grunt and Hummph indeed.

Hamilton's Annual Armageddon Pop Culture expo was a very big deal for Mk1. Our stand was mad busy as was the store. So busy that I failed to find time (or energy) to post our specials and goings on to the Mk1 site, Twitter, Facebook or Google Plus as promised! We spent Monday putting the store back together and have set up our "Show Special Table" in the store - check the photos attached to see the deals on offer for the rest of the month. I don't have time to post a full report here but I would like to say a big thank you to Ella, Emma, Michael, Hayley, John& Rach for your hard work before, during and after the show - and cheers to everybody who dropped by the stand, the store or who wished us well from afar. So next thing on the Mk1 horizon - Free Comic Book Day!

It’s March 2015! (I resisted the urge to say “already”..)   The Hamilton Armageddon Pop Culture expo is on this month (14th and 15th of March).  Mk1 has some pretty cool plans for that show – both at the Con and at the store – so make sure you visit both places that weekend.  This month  sees a new Mike Mignola and Ben Stenbeck project FRANKENSTEIN UNDERGROUND,  a beautiful Geoff Darrow Shaolin Cowboy Hard Cover,  a collection of the Batman 1966 Meets the Green Hornet series, indie gem Wayward’s first volume, the third Star Wars series from Marvel (Princess Leia), a new Hawkeye series by Jeff Lemire, the latest Dark Tower mini series, new Mouse Guard legends,  Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neil’s latest NEMO hardcover and  a new Atomic Robo Volume!   The DC Variant cover theme for March pays  homage to classic Warner Brothers Movie posters.  Gaming wise I’m hoping we will see the Star Wars Armada releases that should have shipped last month plus restocks and new offerings for the Star Wars X-Wing miniature game.  Fans of the PANDEMIC board game – make sure you check out Pandemic : STATE OF EMERGENCY.  The main RPG release for the month will be the IRON KINGDOMS UNLEASHED RPG ADVENTURE KIT – but check the Mk1 Game page for lots of Pathfinder offerings as well.  Warhammer will see new END TIMES arrivals (kicked off with a new KHORNE BLOODTHIRSTER kit).. Rumours for 40K seem to be pointing to some type of Horus Heresy box set…   A full gallery of this month’s expected Comic and Game arrivals can be found on this Mk1 page (includes links to all the above items).

Welcome to Mk1′s February.. The big gaming release this month would have to be the Star Wars Armada game – but there are lots more Game offerings of note – check out the February Gaming gallery here http://www.mk1.co.nz/blog/february-2015-highlights/ . The February comic highlights include the penultimate Batman ENDGAME chapter in Batman #39, JMS’ third volume of Superman: Earth One, a cool new Vertigo 12 issue series EFFIGY by Tim Seeley, Suiciders #1 (new Vertigo title featuring Lee Bermejo’s amazing art), the Locke & Key Master Edition Vol 1 Hard Cover, Grant Morrison’s latest: Nameless #1, Fade Out Volume 1 (the best in crime noir comics!) Starlight Volume 1 (great Mark Millar title!), SPAWN hits issue #250 (with variant covers by Todd MCFARLANE, Greg CAPULLO, Skottie YOUNG, JOCK, Sean MURPHY and Philip TAN!) a Criminal Special Edition one shot (celebrating Brubaker and Phillips series coming to Image) Darth Vader #1 (written by Kieron Gillen with art by Salvador Larroca!), a hard cover collection of the most excellent Rocket Raccoon Skottie Young first storyline, the launch of the King Syndicate comics: King: Flash Gordon, King Mandrake Magician #1 (written by Roger Langridge), King Prince Valiant (written by Nathan Cosby), King the Phantom and King Jungle Jim!. Roman Dirge’s new Lenore collection: Pink Bellies and Cluster #1 (my pick of the new indie titles this month) plus … drum roll please …the return of Lady Mechanika (new issue and a special representation of the first Lady Mechanika issues!). Reminder: Hamilton's Annual Armageddon Pop Culture expo is this weekend! (14th and 15th of March – ticket info can be found here http://armageddonexpo.com/nz/ ) A last minute shipment of Pop Culture merchandise means we will have some very cool new offerings on the stand that we haven't had on Mk1 shop shelves before. Once again we will have our Table of Show Specials and a huge Graphic Novel sale. Just like last year I'll be publishing the specials on Twitter, Facebook and Google Plus so if you can't make the show keep an eye on these sites so you can be first inline to nab any remaining bargains once the show is finished.
Back at the shop we will be trying something a little different... With most of our merchandise at the show we will have room to put out trestle tables containing our entire Back Issue Comic Stash... We usually rotate this stock in and out of the back issue comic selection but for this weekend only that entire selection will be searchable and priced at just $1 dollar each! So lots of reasons to visit Mk1 and the Mk1 Armageddon stand this weekend - check out this week's shipment gallery for a few more reasons and see you at the show! http://www.mk1.co.nz/blog/shipments-due-march-week-two-2015/

I'm placing my DC Convergence orders this week.. DC Convergence: April - May 2015
Two Months of an all-new-all-old-nothing-the-same DC Universe with different titles, new creative teams and an eight issue mini series running through the middle! This is going to break the Mark One Subscription system completely so we are putting all the information on this page http://www.mk1.co.nz/blog/dc-convergence-april-2015-may-2015/ . If you want anything from this event held please let us know - don’t assume we will automatically hold anything. Email the shop ( shop@mk1.co.nz) or use this contact form to let Mk1 know which items you would like held aside at the counter.
The rest of the April 2015 Highlights can be found here http://www.mk1.co.nz/blog/april-2015-highlights/
