Introduction
Shown above with his wife, children's book author Julie Lake, Mark teaches an online course on how to draw and paint for children's books in a changing publishing environment,

His 2003 book for upper elementary grades, Raising 'La Belle'  tells of the the recovery off the Texas coast of an early colonial shipwreck owned by 17th century explorer Robert Cavelier, de La Salle. It won the Western Writers of America Spur Award for best nonfiction western juvenile book of the year.

Mark's illustrations have appeared in his own and others' books and children's magazines. He teaches classes in children's book illustration at The Contemporary Austin Art School at Laguna Gloria (Austin Museum of Art.)
