How Does Image Use on Twitter Vary by Social Authority?
Yesterday in the HOA I did with +Rand Fishkin
and +Neal Schaffer
Rand asked me to share some data on how the use of images varies by Social Authority. The chart below shows what percentage of tweets include images mapped vs. Social Authority. For example, 10% of the tweets from users in the 40-49 authority range include an image.Fascinating Stuff
- this shows a strong correlation between image use and your authority level. Of course, the Followerwonk algo for calculating Social Authority does look at Retweets of your tweets, and from our Twitter study, we know that tweets with images in them are far more likely to get Retweeted.
Over time, will this lead to more Social Authority for you? If you create compelling and thoughtful images and include them in your tweets, it certainly could.
However, bear in mind that this is not about jamming crap, irrelevant images into your tweets. You need to learn how to create compelling, emotion-evoking stuff, and not every tweet should have an image. However, those you are looking for high engagement on? Yes, these should have images in them.
