Earlier this year I moved from Rice University to the AMOLF Institute in Amsterdam. As a new postdoc in Albert Polman's Photonic Materials group I've been encouraged by motivated and enthusiastic coworkers and an intellectual environment second to none. The resources of the institute also enable research to progress faster and more efficiently than I thought possible.

Now, the Photonics Materials group has openings for a new PhD student and several Master's students. A summary of the research openings is included in the link; please feel free to contact me with questions.

Met vrindelijke groeten,
Mark

Took a few photos of the Amsterdam Marathon today - this town is a beautiful place to run!
A few photos from the 2014 Amsterdam Marathon, held on Saturday, October 19th. Beautiful weather, and unseasonably warm!

Thoroughly enjoyed my morning ride in Chappell Hill with Andres Benitez, Kung-Po Chao, Adilet Imambekov, and Peter Muessig. Thanks for tolerating my filming, guys!

The Advanced Research Center for Nanolithography (ARCNL) is now open! I was lucky to be one of the two official photographers at the event; here's a gallery showing how a proper Center is opened!

Ever wanted to see a Dutch PhD defense? Here's a collection of photos I shot while attending the conclusion of Claire van Lare's journey to becoming a Doctor.

When people refer to the LBS (local bike shop), this is exactly what they're talking about. Over the past seven years Bicycle World has become my home away from home. The guys here are extremely welcoming, and the shop has made itself an integral part of the local cycling community with support for everyone from skinny-jeans hipsters to Lycra-clad racers. The service is prompt and consistently high quality, and the sales staff know how to match people with the right bike for their goals, lifestyle, and price range. If you're interested in racing (or just getting more fit), the Bicycle World club is also second to none. The club members span a broad swath of our Houston community, and a wide range of athletic abilities. It's a wonderful way to meet people and get involved in triathlons, running, and mountain biking.
