I’m sure all of us agree that we need to overcome violence, but we first need to examine whether it has any value. From a strictly practical perspective, on certain occasions violence appears to be useful. We can solve a problem quickly by force. But this success is often at the expense of the rights and welfare of others. Although one problem has been solved, the seed of another has been planted.

Working through some issues I've never done before has been educational.

For some reason I assumed Debian would automatically manage fstab for multiple USB flash drives/SD cards... but apparently it doesn't (or I did something wrong)

Anyway, I figured out how to add an entry for sdc1 so now my netbook actually properly automounts a USB flash drive while the SD card slot is also full. Yay.

Next step is to figure out why I get a "Not Authorized" error when unmounting, even though it still unmounts....

yes you have to comment out the line in fstab otherwise two different applications are trying to manage mobile drives.

Anyone know of any long-form works (i.e. textbooks) on Game Mastering Methodology? I know there are tons of short articles and tips and whatnot, but I'm talking about a more comprehensive level. I guess works on theory would be interesting as well.

+Marty Walser you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I no longer have Apple hardware, but for those that do: https://medium.com/@PhilPlckthun/ubuntu-14-10-running-on-my-macbook-18991a697ae0
What I did to get it running, and why it’s still not perfect

I've spent the past couple days designing a Half-orc Magus build.

The image I'm going for is basically a mix between the Grim Reaper and General Kael from Willow.

He's a scythe wielding, trip-focused 20 point build. At level 10, he can easily get a trip bonus of +29, at level 15: +35, at level 20: +42. Not even assuming any particular magic items are available.

Point of interest:
Half-orc Favored Class benefit: 1/2 point of bonus damage to fire spells

Alternative Racial Trait: Sacred Tattoo instead of Ferocity

Traits: Anatomist, Killer

Feat progression: Combat expertise, Improved Trip, Weapon Focus (scythe), Combat Casting, Combat Reflexes, Greater Trip, Weapon Specialization (scythe), Dodge, Vital Strike, Mobility, Spring Attack, Whirlwind Attack, Greater Weapon Focus

Arcana progression: Close Range, Maneuver Mastery (Trip), Arcane Accuracy, Maximized Magic, Quickened Magic, Critical Strike

Selected Buff Spells: Enlarge Person, Bull's Strength, Transformation

Selected Attack Spells: Scorching Ray, Vampiric Touch, Phantasmal Killer, Corrosive Consumption, Geyser, Contagious Flame, Sirocco

Selected Battlefield Control Spells: Grease, Silent Image, Major Image, Black Tentacles, Wall of Fire, Wall of Force, Acid Fog

Fluff: He likes to use his versatile abilities of tripping, fighting, debuffing, tricking, and herding the enemy before burning them with powerful fire spells. He gains great pleasure in ruining his enemies and seeing them flee before him. His fervor for horror on the battlefield will earn him a terrible reputation throughout the course of his career.

Suggest Brutal Stomp for the follow-up AoO after the trip.
Also, Vital Strike does not work with Spring Attack or Whirlwind Attack. Now, I just got done with a character that could either bring a bunch of attacks for a full attack or an Improved Vital Strike for a single, so I'm not saying it's a waste to have both. Just pointing out.

Also, I would take Power Attack instead of Combat Casting. Aforementioned character was a Magus/Kensai and he never had a problem with defensive casting.

For spells, I got a lot of use out of Shocking Grasp for the damage, Fly for speed, Vanish for obvious reasons, and Force Punch because launching Cleric in full plate right off a bridge just amused me.

What is your favorite Textbook on TESOL/TEFL/ESL and why?

I'm doing some reading and the text I have is good if certainly out of date: The 1979 edition of Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language by Celce-Murcia and McIntosh. After this I will probably be looking for other material to study (maybe just the newer version of the same book)

I'm interested in DIY in most aspects of life, which is one reason I participate in the free culture movement.

Lastly (for this introduction bit anyway) I'm also a lifelong student of language and linguistics.  I've spent most of my time learning Japanese but have also studied a little bit of Spanish and Korean.
