As a kid, there was always food in the refrigerator for us to eat before school. My mom worked nights and usually didn't get home before we were off to school, but she always made sure there was enough to eat.
Being an English major and a lifelong writer, as well as a one-time professional athlete - I can totally relate to Mendenhall's decision to retire to pursue writing and living. In fact, I think they are one in the same. Good luck to ya!
