I know you've dismissed Kickstarter (and I agree with your rationale) but have you considered Patreon? It's better suited for recurring things or projects that have periodic outputs... and it's quite popular with artists.

I love the idea of an online magazine, with an annual collection, though!

I love the idea! Features on up and coming photographers, some photo-lit stuff in more depth (like you're doing on the website lately), viewer's projects... all sounds very exciting!

How about also some tutorial features - darkroom techniques would be an obvious one, given recent videos... but composition, lighting, printing, hanging, book making... the list is endless!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, and hopefully being a part of it too!

I got this book as a 'Secret Santa' gift... absolutely enormous book, full of useful inspiration & a great way to see how the experts picked their 'best' images. That's something I've always struggled with!

Absolutely fascinating - the costumes fade into insignificance next to Deborah's passion though! You should get a long interview with her some time, I could listen for hours. If someone has that much enthusiasm for a subject it can draw me in whether I enjoy the subject matter or not.

I am sorry I missed the show when it was in London, though.

Ted, do you use a light-meter for video? I would assume so, it doesn't seem your style to just eyeball it :)

Loving the new format - much more polished, the extra time you're spending is definitely showing! The content is as interesting as ever, too!

The main reason I'm not using it is that I'm unconvinced by the colour management on iPhones / iPads... You can't calibrate the display so you have to hope for the best to some extent. Of course, if your images are going to be mainly shown on the web it's not important (and it's possible that they're going to be viewed on a mobile device so they'll look the same) but for printing I think it might not be as helpful.

For initial triage of images, definitely worthwhile - and even some basic editing, but I think you'll still need to use Lightroom on a calibrated monitor before you go to print.

Also, Ted - what are you using to record your screen & phone for these videos? It looks very smooth!

+Mark Hood I agree Mark, but the cool part is that it syncs so you can get critical back on the desktop.

I use ScreenFlow which allows screen recording if your phone or iPad is plugged into the computer. Its great!

Looks good! I have a crystal ball too, I've not taken it out for shooting yet, but I've done a couple of tests with it... You've inspired me to get moving on that!

Fantastic video - and that wet-plate development process is just magical!

I've backed them - at the time of writing, 24 hours after they start and they've broken $100,000! Film Nerds Unite...

Introduction
Living in Woking, taking interesting pictures, and working altogether too hard. Not necessarily in that order.

I have a fascination with the unseen or barely-seen world around us, and the tales we tell each other to make sense of it. As such, many of the photographs you find here will be of a fantastical nature, inspired by myths and legends as well as some well-known works of more modern fantasy fiction.

There are also some more 'down-to-earth' but equally beautiful images if flights of fancy aren't your cup of tea - but I hope you'll spend a while browsing.
