Roughly 3 years ago I launched Mithril and Mages with little direction.  Today, it has over 50,000 unique visitors per month.   The one thing I did that bridges across writers, game players, and curiosity seekers is the City Name Generator.

I suck at names so I made my life easy.  Now it has a life of its own.
Random City and Town name generation via existing town names.

Finally finished my automated, over-sized, redneck cat feeder for the barn cats.  Little bit of welding, little wood work, and a token amount of programming and electronics was involved.

Whilst I'm now living in the southeast, the local redneck cats appreciate this. So, what I'd really like to know is this........ does it keep them from waking you at 4am to be fed? Just askin' is all. xox Stef

Life is simpler without the bleating email alerts, the upward counting red box, etc.   Big skies and less lights call.

Thoughts and commentary on role playing with a distinct focus on random generation and utility software.

I don't often go offline, my friends.  But when I do, I effing go offline.  No phone, no 'net, nothing.  It's nice to have a weekend like that once in a while.

Relationship Modelling

The response to my request for public posters of RPG topics has exceeded my expectations.  This is not pure aggregation.  It is something new and novel.

My intent was to seed an algorithm with similar interests (RPGs) and build a  model of relationships in the community.   The seeding requires people who publish posts publicly only due to a technical limits.

My vision is that you can click on a topic and see who else who posted on the topic.  Snippets.   Or drive down into a topic you are interested in.   One of the core problems with social media is temporal blow-by.   If you are like me, you cannot be glued to a computer 24/7 but want to explore media from people you like that may have disappeared from the stream.   More so, you may want to visit those sites.

I asked, and received, a great number of links on the public side of G+.  Those people are the seed of the idea.   Now I have to write code to extract topics from the conversations, people mentioned, sentiment, etc.    It's a niche market.

As I said previously, it may never work.   I may fail entirely but half the fun is trying to do something that doesn't exist.

Thank you to everyone who opted in or gave pointers to people who will help in the process.

You can search by Hashtag though just by clicking on it.

Actually as it stands you can search by anything. When I can't get through my whole feed sometimes I do that, as you can filter your search to just be posts by people you can circle.

The really neat one is searching with a -, which is how I avoid most of the politics and trending topics I have no interest in.

"-election -Obama -Romney -politics -cat -gagnum" is my current search.

+Google+  could you provide an "All Circles" button in addition to your "All".   The former should be what I want to see rather the latter being your filtered beliefs of what I might be interested in.

Unless you want to be Facebook.   Where I can only see what you choose for me.

I'm specifically here to see each and everything the people I chose, choose to post. I want everything they do or did.   I do not want it filtered.  I want them, crazy, awesome, amazing, or tired.   I chose them.

Screw algorithms.

Stop choosing for me.  It is annoying.

Been getting a bunch of new circles.   Just to make you reconsider, I'm anti-social, chaotic, and easily annoyed.  I don't post much.   When I do, its generally gaming materials of some such nature.  If you can live with that....

Do you suppose I could ask ignorant managers who don't want to learn to wear pink hats?

Why is it that people just want to be argumentative and exploit everything?  It is not simply an Internet response.   People identify with being someone who argues even when they don't disagree with the premise.  That attitude is  so foreign to me.

Yeah, I love to argue. Not usually in a venomous way, just in a "let's consider every angle" way. But it usually comes across as nasty, like I'm trying to overpower someone with my intellect or something.

It's a fault, and I am working on it. You're probably right about the low self-esteem angle. Our culture here in the US dislikes disharmony but likes independence. It's strange.

Woot!   Finally a good pop-up reminder on the calendar.   Time to bottle my caramel apple mead.   It has been bulk aging for six months.   I'll get a sample amid the bottling process.   I'm hoping its drinkable by the October time frame.

Monday! Monday! Monday!

I'll be hanging out with the brilliant +Ashlan Nathens (+scribblegraph) and +byron rempel (+1000 zombies) for +Indie+

Both artists epitomize the do-it-yourself element and I'm honored to be the host.   We'll  talk influences, struggles, art people love, art people do not, and a wide range of topics.   Will you be there?
