An interesting discussion on SBT and build systems in general. +Josh Suereth
Joshua Suereth and Matthew Farwell discuss SBT (Simple Build Tool) and their new book SBT in Action. They first look at the factors creating a need for build systems and why they think SBT—a new addition to this area—is a valuable contribution in spite...

I have to listen to this; Josh is "the Horse's Mouth" where SBT is concerned these days.

Google closed its own project hosting site, named Google Code, earlier this year, in a move that allowed GitHub and Bitbucket to become the dominant platforms. The move away from project hosting only lasted a few months, with a new place called Cloud Source Repositories now available on the Google Cloud Platform.

This is weird framing. I mean, I don't think CSR is really a "GitHub Competitor" as much as it is a necessary thing to support Cloud Debugger. Honestly, having played with an early trusted tester version, it really isn't great beyond that. They arguably have a build system, too, but it sucks for anything but the most trivial projects.

And honestly, Google Code wasn't a bad product. I don't understand why they never made it part of the Apps for Domains suite.

+Matthew William O'Donnell well this one's a toughie. on one hand, Enter Sandman did bring a lot of attention from the people outside the overly intimate nature of the underground scene, and with that a new wave of fans from all over the world and that in turn made them the legends they are now. the downside to that is that because of them dropping their momentum, the die hards think that they have lost their edge, weaker, 'sellouts' and what have you. one could always argue that because of their rise to fame, metal spread like wildfire and i speak as a guy who rode that train, all due to metallica's fame, which then later opened up metal to me, and by god that was a blessing. point is, it's nice to have them make songs like they did in previous albums but lets face it, people get tired. and inspiration dont come in consistent shapes therefore constant product should not be expected. bands tend to drop at one point, the legends are those who stay in the game longer than everybody else. all in all, i dont think LOG is gonna drop anytime soon. chris is a die hard metalhead, he can keep the metal gear running in them.

Oh god - twitch.tv comes to coding. And here I thought it'd come to accountants filling in tax returns with the form values all obfuscated first, because that would be more interesting...
