This is some of the worst #socialmedia  news I've heard in a while.

In the days of NN 1.0 we thought animated gifs were all the rage because, let's face it, there wasn't enough bandwidth to serve real animations or videos. 

After a while though, they became as annoying as the .gif below.

So now for some reason, the gif89a is back and not only is Facebook going to allow the Candy Crushers to post animated gifs but soon enough, advertisers will too.

I can't imagine I'll be spending much time surfing my Facebook feed once this happens - not that I do now.

When I first heard about these I thought they were just animated gif redux. 

Yawned.

Shook my head in wonder.

But as I look at these examples in particluar, I'm more awestruck than dismayed.

I'm asked about this a lot. When is the best time to post to each social net? These stats tell a decent story but the real answer is a little more complicated.

Why?

Well it really depends on your audience and, in fact, that most influential part of your audience.

So yes, use this as a guide. But if you really want to know when to post, analyze your analytics and engagement and decide from there.

I love it when others write what I'm thinking.

This whole "influencer marketer" fad makes me NUTS. Surely, people like the Fat Jew can influence his followers but who are they? And are they YOUR followers? Are they YOUR advocates?

There is nothing more powerful than finding out who loves your brand and is willing to promote it - with our without incentives. This article hits the nail on the head in that "influencer marketing" for YOUR brand may not look anything like brands big enough to align with big name or Klout score "influencers." In fact, it probably doesn't look at lot like other brands, even competitors.

Yet another bright shiny object...

This is a great post about the relationship between search and content. But here's the rub.

SEO - got it.

Content Marketing - really?

Content marketing. Social media marketing. Email marketing. Article marketing. Even Integrated marketing. Marketing is Marketing. Are you following?

How we got to calling these mediums, these tactics, Marketing in and to themselves is beyond me. Maybe it's what was needed to monitize them. To build monolithic revenue generating machines.

Who knows. 

I'm done with it.

Marketing is what we do. My gosh, I can think of examples where content IS more important than SEO and vice versa. Of where certain businesses should only be using certain social networks. Or where email just doesn't make sense.

Think audience. Think budget. Think product or service category. Think STRATEGICALLY.

And when you do, you'll agree I have a point. ;-)

Not that I expect this to be the "be all, end all" tool for this, but I love that HootSuite is looking well beyond basic metrics here.

Ranking brands by "how much they are loved" is so much more meaningful than likes or even clicks as this is an area - sentiment  - where I believe social shines. 

And any marketer worth his or her salt knows that advocacy and sales follow sentiment.

Makes you wonder who the most hated brands are... UNITED... COMCAST...oh, did I write that?
