We launched the +Birdi: Smart Air Monitor to make our air a little better & our homes a little safer. It's the last few hours of our +Indiegogo campaign and we'd love to hear your thoughts on our smoke detector replacement.

+1 for the API, Seriously.
- 1, can't tell what batter life is
+1 for price if it stays at the $90 mark

We are releasing http://nebrios.com, and it would be great to be able to hook this up and apply various rules based on the environmental info it sends over.  Too cool.

Thanks to +Fast Company for highlighting our battle for better air!
What if your smoke detector could measure more than just smoke or carbon monoxide?

What would an open tech standard for better emergency service response look like? We're trying to build one with #Open911  and submitting to the   #newschallenge  for comments. Would love to hear your thoughts!

From an inexpensive lifesaver to a universal source of irritation.

Thanks +TechCrunch!

Great piece on our smart air monitor and why smog does not unify people, make #China  more equal, or make people funnier. In +TechCrunch by +John Biggs.
Although the Chinese government believes that smog "unifies people, makes China more equal, and makes people funnier," we all know it also can kill you...

Finally: Smartphones improve smoke detectors.

Smoke alarms, which have become a standard and required feature of every house and apartment, suck: http://goo.gl/4Zex17

They typically emit a high-pitched tone when activated, and it's difficult to tell which direction the tone is coming from. When there’s a fire, knowing where that fire is happening is the most important fact. Also, children and some adults have slept through smoke detectors in tests.

Many people have trouble controlling their alarms, which go off each time they cook or for reasons unknown. So they remove the battery and leave themselves unprotected. Most smoke detectors run on just one battery, which has to be changed frequently. When the battery is low, most smoke detectors sound off with a loud beep, which can happen in the middle of the night and scare everybody. You often need a ladder to reach them to turn them off.

Finally, a new breed of smoke and carbon monoxide detector is coming on the market. How cool are these?:

On this #TalkLikeAPirateDay , I'm proud that our smart smoke detector has a pirate option. Call 240-669-2679 to test it. YARRR!
Canary is a smart smoke detector that monitors air quality, carbon monoxide, and smoke levels.
