The amazing Alexander Calder logo is up! It's a simulation of an actual working mobile - also, note the shadow below the search box and buttons ;) http://www.google.com

Click and drag to put the mobile in motion. Also, if you pick up your laptop and rock it from side to side, the mobile swings and moves (cool use of the accelerometer in most laptops).

Nice work, doodle team!

nice doodle :)

very neat!! i couldn't see the shadow, though..

Congrats to the Google artists! Very cool! what an attention to detail and use of #HTML5 for the shadow!

That is beautiful, and fun to manipulate.

spinning spinning spinning...this is very cool!

haha I saw this a few hours ago on Google's Hong Kong website....I was thinking it might be something just for them, but apparently not :)

Very nice. Honestly, it is great to see the real Googlers on Google+ Being able to ask for help and get it is wonderful

Very nice indeed. Is it pre-rendered, or an active simulation?

Love it! Google doodles are becoming more complex/amazing every day!

Shadow was actually good contrast test for my laptop's display.

That is awesome. I've been collecting Google logos for years now, and the new interactive ones are a treat. Kudos to Google for having a sense of fun!

Can it sense slight tilting left and right on my Macbook Pro or am I just crazy?

the shadow is under the buttons :)

Very nice, another impressive Google doodle

i don't see a shadow. =/

Oh, nevermind. The shadow is faint.

It is unbearably slow and glitchy in latest Chrome Dev Channel (win7/x64) build... but awesome!

oh yeah! i see the shadow! i feel like that guy in 'mallrats' who couldn't see the boat in the Magic Eye painting...lol

Works with the accelerometer. Tried it on a macbook.

+Marissa Mayer Looks great! I was kinda looking for a Marshall McLuhan 100th birthday commemorative today.

This has got to be one of my favorites of all time!

Beautiful doodle. Right up there with some of other favorites...Les Paul, Pac-Man, John Lennon and others...very nice.

That is excellent. Love the subtlety of the shadow

.ca isn't showing it yet grumbles

strange...I just see a static picture in firefox.

I see it great in firefox, but in google chrome i get a static picture. Nonetheless, pretty amazing.

lol odd...it only works in chrome for me

If you click on it ... it spins !!

This is absolutely fabulous. Wish I could use that as a moving desktop background. Or a screensaver.

I love it. Wasted more time on it than on the Pac-Man doodle.

The shadow following the mobile in motion is neat. Would be interested in implementation details if there's a blog or some writeup about it.

Awesome! Works with one of my laptops. Didn't know it has an accelerometer...

... not in canada? i dont get it.. i see nothing fun :(

I really love these. Particularly the interactive ones.

Nice work there. Good to remember the artists that we may have never known the names of but who had an affect on us.

Cant stop playing with it....

Should have added microphone functionality so you can blow on it. Like on the Nintendo DS. Now that would be impressive!

Kudos to the Doodle team, they rock!

Would love to have this as a screen saver or background. Nicely done!

very very cool... proud to be an ex-googler! :-) Doodles got better and better through the years. Kudos to the doodle team!

Funny thing is, it doesn't work in Chrome Dev Build but on IE & FF. Google blog post states "so you need to use a modern browser to interact with it" :(

I have been lucky enough to have seen his "Black Beast" at Elliot Noyes' home in New Canaan, As I said before, very nice work.

That's gotta be a fun job to have!

Apparently I am without accelerometer :( Oh well, it's still pretty and fun to spin. I love the shadow.

Looks good, can't wait to try it on my phone

Shaking my desktop monitor side to side but nothing?

if you tilt your laptop screen backward, you can see it much more clearly :) :)

This doodle rocks ! I could move the laptop all day long

Love it. Beautiful. Awesome tech demo. Love the shadow. Does it actually spell "Google?" I can't see it; does anybody? Maybe in white space? Maybe this one is "colors only."

That's awesome. I like that you can click on the leaves and move it around. Very dynamic.

This is exactly what I want hanging over my kitchen island. Ok well maybe not google-shaped...

Cool doodle ! Nice simulation ..but the shadow is not placed properly..if the light source is on top then shadow should be on xz plane only ..I mean shadow is a 2d thing ..I think it should have been placed behind the mobile (xy plane) with an angle of, say 30 degs, for a more convincing effect. But I might be wrong....just my 2 bits :-)

for some reason it's not working for me in Chrome 12.0.742.122, though it works in Firefox 5.0.

Laptops don't have accelerometers as far as I know? Smartphones and tablets, yes. Laptops, no.

Actually they do so they can lock the hard drive for protection in case the laptop falls

Whoa! My laptop has an accelerometer!

This is one of the coolest I have ever seen!

Can Doodle Team talk to Android team... I'd love to have it on my Droid as an app. :-)

Please consider different social environments for Google+ around the world.

In China, many people are not used to present themselves online as in the offline life. It is due to the strict media control and surveillance of the Chinese government. They feel comfortable using their favorite names online, and it does not confuse their online friends.

I understand that Google wants to improve real social connection through this service, but just as Google has promised, it should protect certain degree of privacy and respect people's own choice about their online social life. I hope Google can take this issue seriously and take proper measures to reduce impact on Chinese Internet users. Many of my friends now get their account suspended and they are very confused and angry. They do not want to leave this impressive social network, but if their privacy and freedom cannot be protected and secured, they really get few choices.

I am also a Chinese user. And frankly speaking, my name appeared in Google+ is not exactly the same as the one appeared in my ID. But both my friends and I are comfortable with this name.

I am not saying that Google is wrong with the real name policy. It may work very well in western countries, like US, because freedom of speech is the common belief of all people in the country. However, in some areas where people have to get through the "Great Wall" to access this service, it may not be a wise decision to let them reveal their true identity when freely delivering their thoughts.

+huang chen : I understand that there are issues with not allowing non-actual names in the context of China. But then there are also issues with allowing the use of non-actual names. Any social network, where users are allowed to use fake names promotes following kind of problems:
1) Lot more fake profiles, spam profiles
2) People keep fancy names, that makes it difficult to search people over the network. I faced this problem repeatedly on Orkut.
3) People with un-real names tend to be more careless about what they are commenting and are vulnerable to resort to abusive/trolling/un-wanted behavior. Look at YouTube comments sections if you want proof of that!

In conclusion, its great if you want to use this highly useful social network, but very conditions that you are putting on it would contribute negatively to its usefulness!
