I used to think LED filaments were just LEDs-on-a-stick --wrong! They seem to use a clever packaging method of chips wire-bonded to a square wire lead-frame. Very versatile.
I was inspired by seeing a quick video clip from Micah Scott @scanlime of some LED filaments she had purchased off Alibaba. I found several different ones for sale on eBay and purchased these. The cost, including shipping, was $2.45, so I wasn’t risking much.  And then I pretty much forgot about them because they were …

Gorgeous light quality: The NEW Cree TW series LED T8 tube light at a third less than the original one. http://www.designingwithleds.com/the-new-cree-tw-series-led-t8-review-and-teardown/
The Cree TW series LED T8 replacement lamp is a brand-new light, not to be confused with Cree’s original T8 replacement lamp. That lamp, introduced a year ago, is no longer being sold. Like the original Cree T8, the new T8 TW series is a replacement lamp: You pull out the old fluorescent tube light …

This #LED T8 light from Hollywood lights has excellent light quality and is TRIAC dimmable. I like it a lot.

The Slimstyle was introduced in January; it took about 4 months for certification. About the same as the Cree SW.
The Philips 800-lm Slimstyle bulb has earned Energy Star certification, making it eligible for utility rebates in most states. (With the exception of California, where state regulations’ require LED bulbs to have a CRI of at least 90 to be eligible for utility rebates; the Slimstyle has a CRI of 80.) The Slimstyle’s list price …

How how to use a laser pointer lens, iPhone, and a tripod to take 175x-mag photos of LED filaments http://www.designingwithleds.com/smartphone-microscope-led-photos/
I often need to take photos of deconstructed LED, lights, or drivers and look at them at a much smaller than normal scale. For this purpose I bought an eScope a couple of years ago. This was not an ideal instrument: The software is difficult to work with and requires tweaking to work with a …

At $38, the FEIT/Costco ‪#‎LED‬ shop light is a good product. And the light quality is good, too.
The next LED linear light I evaluated was a 48-in. FEIT shop light, which, as far as I know, is sold only by Costco.

4 years ago it took 288 LEDs to deliver mediocre light output in a T8 tube lamp. Now it takes just 120 and the light is gorgeous. This whole #LED lighting thing just might work...
After evaluating the performance of the new Cree T8 LED fluorescent replacement lamp it was time to take one apart to see how they are designed. A quick recap: The lamp uses 21W to produce 2100 lm of 90CRI light. As you may remember from the article, the lamp’s cross-section is oval rather than round.  Cree gave it rotatable end-cap plugs …

Hey, do you have any color spectrum graphs of 4200k fluorescent light, I'd really be interested to see how it compares to other light sources like the sun.

Steven Chu says we're close to having a rechargeable metal-air battery.
Steven Chu, a Nobel laureate and former secretary of energy, and Yi Cui, a celebrated battery researcher who works with Chu at Stanford, describe how an overhaul of the unglamorous battery will jump-start a shift to renewable energy.
