Long ago, you could learn a lot about someone by reading their bookshelf. From 1996 to about 2003, my personal website  served as my publically-readable bookshelf. These days, we have LibraryThing

For professional stuffs, it's all LinkedIn all the time.  

Even worse than being able to read my bookshelf is reading my bookmarks. I use Diigo for that lately, only because I'm afraid Del.icio.us is going to vanish in the night sometime. 

I think virtual worlds like Open Wonderland and  Second Life are kinda interesting.
