Listen, lowering business tax rates only helps the owners. Businesses grow due to DEMAND for their services. If business taxes go lower, but demand stays the same, they aren't going to hire anyone, as there isn't more work to do. It is a nice payoff for the owner though, isn't it?DEMAND climbs when the middle class has money to spend. The middle class are the true job creators. Sadly, they're broke as their wages haven't really increased in 30 years.
But it gets worse, Texas is far behind Maryland in average income, and most people are already squeezed. Again we are back to DEMAND, which is most likely lower as people earn less.
Then there are those knowledge jobs, well, we all know how that one goes. When it comes to these types of jobs, and the education needed to get them, we're #1, Texas is far behind on that metric as well. Better educated citizenry lives longer, is less burdensome on healthcare facilities, and are more environmentally aware. Much of the boom in Texas is coming at the cost of their environment.
Lastly, Maryland is better prepared for the long term in regards to energy. Oil runs out, and renewables ARE the future because... oil runs out. We're far better prepared for that eventuality, while in Texas, the general perception is that we have hundreds of years of oil, which is totally false. If that were true, the Bush administration would have all that supply going, wouldn't they?
Just stay here, there's more money to be had, you'll have power in 20 years, you'll have the educated employees you need, and you won't have people taking sick days all the time, OK.
