#30DaysWithAndroi Day 18 part 2 is here! Yep, I'm a bit on fire today. :)
OK, after I posted my earlier bit on editing, I had some time, and good enough weather, to go outside and play a bit with a few navigation apps. I had already tried Google Maps in combination with Yelp while in Toronto on day...

OK, here's another reader request. ;) #30DaysWithAndroid
OK...As easily as the blog posts wrote themselves up until now, this one was really hard. In fact I went all day without a good idea about what this post would be about. I had some requests from comments, one being testing so...

#30DaysWithAndroid Here's day 15. And if you thought yesterday's post was controversial, you'll be in for a surprise in today's one!
OK, this is day 15, and this means half-time reached! And this was the day I had to ask my wife to hand me my iPhone she had been keeping. But the reason was not accessibility-related: I am using a product Deutsche Telekom T-...

Day 13 is here, and as is often the case with the number 13, this contains a scary bit! But also something positive! #30DaysWithAndroid
And I'll start with the moment of shock first: Last night, because the community was so busy retweeting and favoriting may Days 11 and 12 (thanks for that, by the way!), I wanted to set my Nexus 7 to silent mode. For some rea...

#30DaysWithAndroid Here's day 11, a bit late due to travelling!
Before I left Toronto on Friday, the one Android-related thing I have to report is that Eitan let me have a look at his Motorola Moto X. I hadn't seen this one before, even when I had looked at the current line-up of Android ...

#30DaysWithAndroid This is the end...
Yes, you read correctly, I quit. I will not make the 30 days. The reasons are different from the first time I did this experiment. Back then, there were actual show stoppers of things I needed to be able to do, like entering ...

Day 18 is here, quite early, but with a very important topic: Text editing.
Today, as was also suggested the other day, and also as a follow-up from yesterday's post, I will talk a bit about how editing works in Android. Note, however, that your results may vary. This is fairly new, in fact these edi...

Here's a special edition of #30dayswithandroid with both writing and audio. Enjoy! Or don't. :)
OK, as already announced yesterday, today's post is all about scrolling. And since I decided to do this post, things actually got more pronounced. This may have been because I was giving this even more attention, but the more...

#30DaysWithAndroid Day 14 is here, with a look at braille support.
OK, this is basically a blog post fulfilling a readers' wish: Taking a look at braille. I had planned to do it anyway during these 30 days, but since it again was mentioned by Anouk in a comment to yesterday's post, I took so...

#30DaysWithAndroid Day 12 is here as well! This one's on time, though! :)
Yes, late Friday and much of Saturday, today, was spent travelling back home to Germany from a wonderful week in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. And as on my trip there, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 both didn't let me down for an instan...

#30DaysWithAndroi Here's day ten!
Yes, one third of the 30 days is over today! And as a first resume I can say that Android performed for me much better than I ever expected it to after my initial experiment a year ago. And I must admit I was still skeptical ...

Occupation
Teach and help make the web a more accessible place.
Skills
Testing, explaining concepts to people, nowadays mostly in HTML, JS and CSS, but also know a thing or two about accessibility frameworks in iOS, Android, Windows, OS X etc.
Employment
  • Mozilla Corporation
Accessibility QA engineer & evangelist, 2007 - present
I help make Firefox, Firefox for Android, and Firefox OS more accessible by testing, providing guidance and mentoring, and helping to design interaction patterns. I also am out there on the road occasionally speaking at conferences to web developers to help them make the web more accessible. I also have a background in screen reader technology for the blind from a previous employment, so know very well how these things interact with the browser and your website.
  • Freedom Scientific
