My first long form piece for Listen Music Mag - am very pleased to have started with something as straightforward the difference between value and price (is there even one?), why humans make such irrational decisions and if, in the end, it even matters.
After threatening poor editors for some years with 5000 word exegeses when they barely had room for a listicle, I finally got a yes. And am very pleased to have

Those asking about acoustics: as long as the new Paris Philharmonie was not optimized for a horse, will be better than the Salle de Pleyel http://bit.ly/13QNNz9 #classicalmusic    #paris  #acoustics #philharmonie
Is it art or science? In the quest for the ideal acoustic in a concert hall, the fact that our ears are on the sides of our heads is just as important as being on good terms with the architects.

Why not add a 60-minute opium-fuelled tale of love unrequited to your afternoon? The ending's to die for. Also. There are witches.

In other words: Symphonie Fantastique and Lang Lang/Tchaik 1 at the new Paris Philharmonie starts live in 2 hours ici: http://bit.ly/1DIoIdH

OM Advent Calendar Day 24

A treat from King's College Choir, heute: a free download of Once In Royal David's City from their new album Favourite Carols from King's.
Descants, candles, cassocks - the whole nine yards.

Tune in tomorrow for the last Advent Calendar installment and another exclusive King's surprise.

Once in Royal David's City is traditionally the first sung at the King's College 9 Lessons & Carols service. It builds from a single treble to full choir, organ and descant. In a home listening situation, it is at its most glorious when played at house-shaking, floor-rumbling volume.
