Has anyone here been using either Ubuntu, Elementary OS, or Fedora for media broadcast by chance? How is the performance and stability of apps like OBS under those systems?

I am looking to get a new laptop in the very near future that will be used heavily for video and audio broadcasting, recording, transcoding, etc. I've got Arch running flawlessly on my desktop for all this, but rather than going Arch on my laptop, I was considering running Ubuntu since they will finally be running GNOME. I am not willing to reload my desktop PC at this time to test it out since that would interrupt production. Just curious if others use the above mentioned distro's for this kind of work.

I'll also be using it for doing a lot of development. But I already know dev work works great under all those.

I need recommendations for a very high quality capture card for Linux. Preferably PCI, but not opposed to standalone options. Any price point, but preferably under $300

Had my first day of coding class today. This years class size is 25, which is almost 3 times bigger than last years which was about 10. It's a mix of 6th - 12th graders, so that is definitely going to make things interesting.

Day 1 went really well. All the returning students picked coding back up very quickly, and the new students all really enjoyed code combat. I am currently scheduled to teach this class for the next 2 quarters.

My early impressions of the Pixel are very positive.

Setup was a breeze. It wirelessly connected to my Nexus 6 and pulled over all my settings even without being connected to wifi.

The screen is beautiful.

It's super fast, and very smooth.

Finger print sensor works flawlessly so far.

Camera appears to be awesome, but only taken a few pics so far.

Apps load very fast, including Pokemon Go!

Reboots quickly.

Lots of fun ringtones and misc sounds.

Very strong wifi and cell signal strength.

Build quality feels amazing.

Slightly on the slippery side, will likely get a skin put on it.

Headphone jack, because you know, that's a thing.

Speakers seem good, even though they aren't front facing stereo.

Pixel launcher is nice.

Google assistant is nice and very fast to use.

Keyboard is super responsive with really pleasing tactile feedback.

Web Dev's out there, I need some help.

I am trying to utilizing css variables to modularize URL entry.

:root{
--url: url("path/to/image");
}

.class{
background-image: var(--url);
}

However, it just resolves var(--url) as "var(-url)" rather than the actual url "path/to/image".

According to this Stack Overflow page, this is the correct way of doing it, but I've not been able to make it work. Can't really find any other information regarding this issue aside from this single page unfortunately.

I haven't stood for the pledge of allegiance, or put my hand on my heart for the national anthem in many years.

What happened last night has been building up for the majority of my life. I've never felt proud to be American, because America has never in my life been a country worth respecting. After tonight, I've largely lost faith that it will ever be what it claims to be striving for. America will go down in history books as one of the most inhumane countries to exist in the modern era. This is either the tipping point where America crashes and burns, or where we declare war on the rest of the world. Personally, I hope we crash and burn. No other country should suffer for our ignorance and stupidity.

I will continue to not stand for the pledge, and not cross my heart for the anthem. I will continue to be a good human being, and to do what I can to make my local community as respectable as it can possibly be. But it's clear that America is full of dangerous, hateful, and violent people, and those people seemingly outnumber those of us trying to make the world a better place.

If you are not in the US and considering visiting or moving here, I highly recommend you reconsider. If you're here already, I fear for your safety, and encourage you to consider leaving before you don't have that option.

To the people of the world, I'm so sorry for what America has done, and what it will very likely do in the not so distant future.

Been using my Google Pixel for about 2 weeks now. It's pretty awesome. I went with the standard size (5.0 inch), rather than the XL. I just picked up my Nexus 6, and wow does that thing feel massive.

On a related note. I am prepping to sell my Nexus 6, so if anyone is interested, let me know. Price is negotiable. Starting at 300$ for phone + spigen Neo Hybrid Case + front screen protector + Turbo Charger and Cable.

I am willing to throw in a TYLT Wireless charging base station for an extra 25$. Unlike most wireless chargers, this one works flawlessly and doesn't require putting your phone on it "just right".

The truest test of a new phone... How long can it last while playing Pokemon Go!
