There are four things I've found in great leaders:

1) A clear, shared vision.
There should be one vision, not two, not three. Everyone in the company and partners understands and ideally believes in it. The leader effectively communicates this vision internally and externally.

2) Conviction to see it through.
The leader is committed to getting the mission done to complete to achieve the vision. They stop at nearly nothing to ensure this is done, this means not wavering, changing visions, nor getting distracted. The art of focus is the art of saying no.

3) Empowerment of others to get done.
While leaders should be with the team in front, they can't get the job done alone and must enable others around them to get it done. Those who can't look like micro-managers which destroy spirit, innovation, and scale.

4) Accountability of others.
You can't empower others to do what they want unless the leader has set up ways for people to be accountable of self, accountability between peers, accountability from customers and accountability from management. This includes measure, feedback, reward, and unrewards for behaviors.

These four aren't a complete list, but this is what I've learned in working with CEOs, market leaders, executives, and the many lessons I've experience on my own.

Please share with me your additional thoughts, what would you add to this?

Wailana Coffee House is a great place to have breakfast if you're looking for a mish-mash of nostalgia, cheap eats and a full plate. When you get there expect a short lineup, but it generally moves along pretty fast. You're greeted by one of the nice elderly ladies of the establishment that gives you a down-home feel right away. The decor is hokey 1960's Waikiki, which adds to the diner experience. The menu is easy on the wallet and you'll find things that you won't usually find outside of Hawaii, like butter fried bananas or portugese pork sausages. Warning though, this isn't the best place to go if you're looking for vegetarian, light options or white linen service. Overall this is one of the better places to grab a quick, budget breakfast outside of your run of the mill fast-food chain options.
