Short of being there, discover the #CoralTriangle through mind-blowing photos on our latest website project #wwf http://thecoraltriangle.com/content/stories/2014/08/the-ancient-sea-people-of-palawan
The coral islands of Palawan were once home to the first human settlements in Southeast Asia. In ancient caves hidden within jungle-clad limestone cliffs, archeologists have discovered 47,000-year-old artifacts which can be traced through time to today’s island cultures. What's the connection between the reefs of the Mentawai islands, Change.org and actor Paul Walker of Fast & Furious fame? A thread showing that despite the cynicism about clicktivism (sorry about the alliteration), isolated communities can leverage the power of the internet to publicize their grief, get the attention of a Hollywood star, and reap benefits as justice gets doled out. Local > global > local.

This sums it up quite well: "The fact that behavioural insight is a modern form of intellectual entertainment is no bad thing, but it should give us pause, because cool is not the same as profitable or ethical or sustainable, and it doesn't address the core tension between commercial ambitions and ecological constraints."
Behavioural insights come in many forms so those concerned with sustainability need to make judgment calls about the type and depth of the insight they need

Finally, a fresh treatment of consumer education on #palmoil issues. Finding CSPO should not be a drama... but in first place, more consumers should be asking the question. Anyway, nice work from #WWF and Nice and Serious.

"Any solution will need to come from the demand side, because it’s clear that suppliers are going to keep clearing forests until consumers force them to stop." Actually, some of the largest successes toward sustainable palm oil have come from radically opposite approaches. Step-by-step coaxing of businesses by organisations such as WWF, and in-your-face aggressive campaigns by #greenpeace   and the like. This having been said, I agree with a #wildaid  - style approach to public campaigning focused on verifiable #zerodeforestation commitments.

Introduction
I came to Indonesia in the mid-noughties with a backpack and dreams of finding my place and purpose in the environmental movement. Eight years later I find myself growing a comfortably small communications firm called Catalyze Sustainability Communications and still chasing dreams.
