Several of my friends here on Google+ have called for us to lock arms and improve our community. I take ownership of Google+ as my social network of choice and I want to improve it.
How better to do that than to actually help people. Typically, I will just mute and/or block people that send me random notifications, but today I decided to lend a hand and nudge the person in the right direction.
I want to thank the likes of and others for their influence on me to change from getting into flame wars to lending a hand.
I received a notification from an affiliate marketer for a post he did sharing one of his blog posts. Mind you, I have nothing against affiliate marketers, I have been successful with them myself. But the notifications sometimes seem spammy.
What I realized, is that maybe this person just was new to the neighborhood and didn't know the etiquette most of us have learned over the last couple of years. So, I explained how it appears spammy and it would be better to build a notification circle much like did (as well as others).
The person thanked me, and explained he was still figuring out how to use Google+.
Let's band together to help rather than ignore people that may just need a gentle nudge! We won't regret it.
carry on, stepping off my soap box now for a beer
