I saw this crazy old clock today, it looks like it works via a punched tape.

Today I picked an antique steamer trunk from 1925 Scandinavia. Looked just like the wood furniture my grandparents had around their house.

People need to know that they should test their keys with the door open. I have gone out to jobs where a customer wants to see if their keys work and so they shut the locked door with the wrong keys in their hands and turn around to face me with this silly look on their faces. If they had locked the door and not shut it they could still try the key out.
I remember doing a lockout for some people who had a key cut at their nearest locksmith shop, left their house and when they came back it didn't work. They blindly assumed that this key somebody spent twenty seconds making would work. While it is a reasonable assumption to make, there is a small chance that the key might not work and if it doesn't then it will ruin your day. That's why you should test your key before you need to use it.
It is really easy, one only has to engage the doorknob lock but not shut the door. It will be obvious if the doorknob is locked because it won't turn when you try. Its locked status confirmed, the next step is to try to turn the knob after turning your key in the knob's lock cylinder. If the latch retracts or the knob is suddenly able to turn then the key must be working!
This all boils down to trying things out to make sure they work before you need them. It's like making sure your airplane''s ailerons are working before takeoff, or that your motorcycle's brakes work before getting on the freeway. The concept is testing something that you will absolutely need and depend on before you need it.The same applies to locks, you check them with the door open.

Ok I guess it's time to change some of my passwords! I was just reading about ordered markov chains as used in password cracking.
If your password is using 133t5p3@k or foreign languages or repeated words then it may be easy for somebody to bruteforce using modern techniques for password cracking. Use Oauth and other 2 factor authentication if available, and use a random password generator too!

Seattle Locksmith Stories, continued. This is how I helped a building secure their garage that is apparently frequented by some unsavory characters.

Maybe somebody out there wants to know how to convert a mortise lock's function from entry or dormitory or office to passage. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new mortise lock! #seattle #locksmith #diy
