I just announced a new gamification initiative. The idea is to use an artifact that I call Champions and Fans.http://www.slideshare.net/manuellemos/alavancando-audincia-usando-gamification-afiliados-brasil-2013/34
The idea is to put the best of the best in competion but at the same time they form teams that need to collaborate to win the prize.
In this case the teams are formed by players of the same country. If the country as whole wins, all the players of the same country win.
Additionally non-players are expected to also help cheering for the best of their countries, just like fans of sports teams.
In the annoucement I wanted to try something new. Use the hero journey like narrative to engage the target audience to listen to the story to the end, enjoy and spread it.
The story tells about a message that I got that there was a problem with the site quality. Therefore I went on a journey to another "world" to solve that problem. I had difficulties but got help from super-users that joined forces to solve the problem.
The cool part is that I am practically telling that the site super-users are the heros. I tell that anybody can be one of those heroes if they follow what I invited them to do.
Coincidentally I met +Gabe Zichermann
personally in GSummit meetup event in Brazil and we talked a bit about this.
We were commenting that there seems not be many gamifiers using narrative or anything like the hero journey to engage people in gamified environments.
I am not sure if I am on the right track. Lets see how well this works.
Meanwhile you can watch the video to check the storytelling approach.
