The roots of Mans Lumber run deep in the history of Downriver. Founded by Nicholas A. Mans, son of a German immigrant, the company started with the dawn of the 20th century in 1900. On the West Rd in Trenton, Mans began selling coal, lumber, and building materials. For the first years of the fledging business, customers would leave their orders at a local drug store, because the site did not have an office.

The philosophy of the company was simple: serve and respect the customers by treating the customer the way they’d like to be treated.

More than a century later, Mans Lumber remains a family owned and operated company upholding the solid business concept of its Founder. Today, the fourth generation of Mans Lumber remains active in daily business and pride themselves on being active in the communities they serve.

The first location in Trenton has expanded to its location in Canton. Both locations feature  a full service lumber yard, kitchen and bath design centers, a flooring store, millwork shop, installed product services, construction finance and distribution center.

Once located on Ford Rd, the Canton facility upgraded to its current location on Michigan Ave. the new location houses 24,000 square foot of retail space, 50,000 square foot of warehousing, and 18 acres of lumber storage. The sheer size, variety of products, and service in that one location makes it unique to the Southeastern Michigan market.

With state of the art tooling onsite, Mans Millwork produces an array of custom mouldings, millwork, and pre-hung doors in a variety of species such as Cherry, Maple, Pine, Mahogany, Alder, and Oak.

Mans Kitchen & Bath showrooms offer cabinetry and fixtures for building and remodeling showcasing products by Merillat, Wood-Mode and Pioneer. The showrooms also showcase Doors and Windows by Andersen and Jeld-wen. To provide customers with a convenient one stop shop, both sites additionally offer rough lumber, trim, builder hardware, and other builder materials.

Mans Lumber is large enough to have the resources and purchasing power necessary to offer competitive prices, but small enough to react quickly to the market changes and needs of the community.

Simply the best. Forget the big box stores. The staff is helpful and very knowledgable. I had cedar decking delivered and the quality of the boards was excellent. Customer service was top notch. Kudos to Mans Lumber & Millwork.

As a retail shopper I have continued to use Mans as a primary source for my home improvement and repair needs. My most frequent purchases involve building and repair materials and home improvement supplies and in those categories I find the selection and quality to be very good. When I don't find what I want the staff is excellent at helping to find an alternative or to order what I need if it is a product that is still being manufactured and sold on the retail market. The facilities are first class and well organized and customer service will always be great. I would recommend shopping at Mans whenever you have either interior or exterior home improvement, home repair or tool requirements.

Delivery was promised next day. Then the next day. And when I called two days later, it was supposedly on the truck in route, but never showed up. The next day they said they couldn't find the address. But they had delivered material before to this address. Finally on the fourth day it was delivered, but to the wrong address. Chelsea Lumber is not far away and I would very much recommend using them. One or two mistakes is understandable due to the nature of the business and logistics, but the four they sequentially made shows their incompetence and arrogance.

Despite being a primarily commercial operation, I thought the staff was very friendly and helpful. The material was cut to my specifications and securely bundled. The warehouse even helped load it in my car! Product quality is excellent (on level with picking over a home center's stock but without the hassle) and prices are very competitive. Highly recommended!

Staff does not know their products. To the point of not even knowing if they carry a certain brand or if they stopped being a factory service center Two years ago!!! Buyer Beware. Call ahead and then call ahead again and ask for someone else. Take the average of all replies. I would go somewhere more trust worthy. Not saying they are dishonest, just incompetent.

Def order from here. Cheapest priced material and they deliver for only 50 bucks! Phone order guys actually know what they're talking about. Makes home depot look like its run by blind Chinese children... well, kinda.
