During the recent Moogfest event at Manifold, experimental harpist Mary Lattimore took her instrument "beyond the dimension of cherubic trills and into outer space with cascading loops of glitching glissandos and warped harmonics." Hear it at https://soundcloud.com/moogfest/mary-plays-the-harp.

Moogfest stops by Manifold & the Miraverse:

The heartbeat of Moogfest doesn’t stop after four days of performances and partying. It simply goes underground and travels around in the form of dial-tones events. These events bring Moog leaders together in cities around the world, connecting performers with educators, entrepreneurs with artists, community leaders with community creators.

Normally, Dial-Tones events are held in large cities, but the Moogfest team was so impressed with our space that they decided to host an event close to home. It was a great success! Here’s a little mosaic of images showing the events of the day, from the get-together before Mary Lattimore‘s performance, some words from the Moogfest team, a wonderful performance, and a chance for people to talk with Mary after the performance.

Frederic Chiu visited Ruggero Piano to demonstrate Yamaha's latest piano masterpiece, the CFX concert grand.

For his encore, Frederic told a story of a recording his father made on a reel-to-reel tape machine of Prokofiev's Lieutenant Kijé's Suite. After many years (and after they had lost track of the tape), Frederic sought to find the original recording that his father had tape, to no avail. So he transcribed his memories of that recording, which were different than any other recording he could find. Here he plays the final movement of that Suite, the performance of his memory. And a memory we will all treasure henceforth.

We were delighted for the opportunity to see, hear and record our friend Frederic Chiu at a concert at Ruggero Piano in Raleigh on Sunday. Chiu recorded his 2016 album Hymns and Dervishes at Manifold, performing the music of composer G.I. Gurdjieff. That intricate and unique project is described here: https://blog.miraverse.com/2012/12/16/frederic-chiu-records-at-manifold/.

On Sunday, Chiu performed pieces by Claude Debussy, Gao Ping and Sergei Prokofiev on the new Yamaha CFX concert grand. We will soon be releasing video excerpts of the concert online. Stay tuned! Chiu has been a Yamaha artist for 26 years and released the first classical album (Distant Voices) for Yamaha Entertainment Group’s label in 2015.
