In 2002, a lock of hair from Elvis Presley's famed pompador was sold for a whopping 115,000 USD, the most ever for a single tress. It is believed to have been cut off his head in 1958 when he enthusiastically joined the US army.
It seems pretty bizarre, not to mention creepy, to pay such a sum for a few strands of hair that, when removed from whatever velvet-cushioned box they are likely bound within, would be indistinguishable from something fished out of a shower drain. But it's not really that surprising. We've been paying big bucks for celebrity hair for years:
John Lennon (48,000$) Justin Beiber (40,000$) Mick Jagger (6,000$) Napoleon Bonaparte (13,000$) Abraham Lincoln, (25,000$) Beethoven (7,000$) and Che Guevara (100,000$) Willie Nelson (37,000$) These all are just a few in a long list of many.
In 2013, even Katy Perry admitted to keeping locks of hair from Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus in her purse. She says 'It is totally creepy but awesome!'
Is it REALLY something 'awesome'??? #elvispresley #insanity
