I enjoyed this book a lot but after hearing that the movie was screwed up, decided not to see it. I think I read this when it first came out, so it's been a favorite on my shelf for ages--centuries, perhaps.
I'm reviewing this book as part of the 2015 Magic Realism Blog Hop. But Winter's Tale has been on my TBR list for some time. Viewed from our end of the turn of the 21st century, Winter's Tale appears to be set in a version of...

I've never seen the movie, but I haven't heard much of anything good about it, so I will steer clear. :) I can't imagine any filmmaker could do the book justice -- the plot is too complex. Maybe a mini-series, but not a movie.

It's the late 1800s in America, and the white people in power are trying to civilize the Indians -- and one way they're doing it is to forcibly remove as many Indian children as they can and send them to boarding schools far ...

I agree, Malcolm. Every American should have to learn what went into "civilizing" Indian children. The whole thing was just inexcusable.
