+Aryan Ameri your thoughts?
HMD Global overnight announced the addition of the Nokia 8 to their growing range of new Nokia smartphones, following up the global announcement with a media launch here in Sydney this morning letting us get our hands on the device. If the company’s…

Catching up on the whirlpool Nokia 6 thread makes me wish they would add ability to do "+1"s for all the awesome comments by our local SoC analyst/expert here (you know who you are :-)

I'm still very tempted by the 6 though disappointingly the Art Black is not available in retail here in Aus, but now that the 16th Aug is announce date for the much leaked 8 I'll wait til then...

Apparently not a widely known fact:
Android Phone + OTG cable + USB-Ethernet adapter + FLIGHT MODE = network over ethernet.
Caveats:
* used DHCP for IP & DNS
* tested only with N5X (7.1.2), N5 (6.0.1)
* tested only with dm9601 based usb-eth adapter
* not working: N10 (5.0.1), S4 (5.0.1)

According to (http://plugable.com/products/usb2-otge100/) a whole bunch more are compatible with thier AX88772-based adapter

Woohoo - now to wait and see if they allow unlocking the bootloader...
And $AU399 for the Nokia 6 is basically what grey importers are currently charger for the HK variant, so even more impressed +Nokia !
FYI +Aryan Ameri
It’s been a while since we’ve seen a Nokia handset on-sale here in Australia, but Nokia is back and they’re looking just as good as ever. Nokia will be bringing the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, announced back in February at Mobile World Congress to…

Incrementally getting better?

So the One Plus 5 flagship launched a few days ago with impressive specs (esp ram) and a quite reasonable price.

Yet what caught my attention was not only the almost simultaneous release of the device and kernel repos (https://github.com/OnePlusOSS) BUT the fact that on first glance the kernel appears to be 4.4 which puts it even ahead of what Google shipped on the Pixels!

Given that 4.4 is an LTS the +Greg Kroah-Hartman will be maintaining (I think until start of next year?) and the phone is even using a qualcomm SoC (FYI +Aryan Ameri)

Sure hope this is "coming soon" - pretty much one of the last few reasons I'm still on desktop Ubuntu and not ChromeOS is Android Studio...
I wonder if +François Beaufort could shed some more light on this??

Finally a choice of actual "smart watches" as opposed to bizzaro little computers you wear on your wrist in between charging them every day. These are all just brands of the Fossil group, but hopefully the other big boys (citizen & Seiko) get on board too.

One more new 5.0 API addition I didn't know about til now but will likely end up using soon...
My talk at Linux Plumbers 2016 was "Android Systems Programming Using the Java Language", which was a bit of background on the android.system package added in L:

(I would have called it android.os, but that was already taken.)
