Good morning! Are you planning to watch the solar eclipse today? The Hereford Times has some safety advice and bonus handy instructions for a super easy maker project - a pinhole camera!

Enjoy the view!
A WARNING has gone out urging people to take safety precautions when viewing the partial solar eclipse this week.

Here's a fab instructable for building a good sturdy workbench. This would be a nice project for the space +David Jenkins +Nigel Tolley +Kate Tolley

It's important to have a dedicated space to make and work on projects. These plans can show you how to build an inexpensive, sturdy workbench.

I like the idea Kate had of making a "Crafting table" version of this. We wouldn't have saws on four sides though!

Do you love building things in Minecraft?

Here is a great project for you - and you can win prizes too!

The idea is to build your own version of Shakespeare's home in Minecraft. There are various resources on the website that tell you quite a bit about how it would have looked as well as a floorplan for the foundation. There are three age groups - 11 and under, 12-15 and 16+ - and the winner from each group will get some great prizes including Minecraft lego and papercraft kits, a Shakesbear and a Shakespeare Wallbook. You have until August 31st to enter - and if you do, we'd love to see your creations too! Share them with us here or on our website or forum at makebromyard.org.uk.

Ive discovered what the extra USB port is for, you can prepare cutting files on demo mode of software and export to usb. Wadge that usb into the machine and it can cut straight from those files without need the pc with dongle connected. Nice.

In Birmingham this week? +The Big Bang Fair is on from Wednesday to Saturday at the NEC and tickets are free! It's open to the public as well as school groups and it looks, frankly, amazing.

+David Jenkins has taken some great pics from our first open night - t-shirts were made, robots were controlled round an assault course (we think this might have been everyone's favourite bit), quadcopters were flown and lots of people came to visit and see what we were all about.

Next week: probably a slightly earlier start time; more activities for kids because it's clear we have loads of interested young makers; more work surfaces!

Thanks to everyone who came and we hope to see you often :)

Excellent open night at #makebromyard : quadcopters, robot assault courses, T-shirt printing and planes made from drainpipes. Fun all round!
