As you all know by now, instead of running the marathon today, I was a spectator. Or, rather, I was a cheerleader. I led the American Cancer Society's cheer station just past mile 18 in Little Italy. IMG_5167.JPG. While I was never actually a cheerleader, I was on the pom squad / dance team in ...

Like many of you, my Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and DailyMile feeds were full of 20-mile runs this weekend. If you're running the Chicago Marathon, last week was your peak week. Welcome to your taper. If you've been following along, you know that I'm registered for the Chicago Marathon.

Bristol Renaissance Faire 2013 » MagMileRunner

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is head just over the Illinois-Wisconsin stateline for a day at the Bristol Renaissance Faire.

Great place to get a really awesome workout! The machines are designed with soft surfances, so if you're prone to injuries, this is a great place for you! Even if you just want a tough high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout, you will get that here!! The instructors are high-energy and the staff is very friendly. The space is very clean and welcoming, and their bathrooms are stocked with amenities and showers.

I love the teachers at Vaudezilla! They are so fun and encouraging of all shapes, sizes, genders, orientations, dance abilites, etc. Everyone is welcome, and they definitely make you feel that way! The space itself is nice, an intimate studio space (they cap classes to make sure everyone is comfortable) with some cheeky decor. Most classes have the option to perform in the student showcase at the end of each session, which is always lots of fun! But of course always optional if you're not comfortable performing in public.

Love this place! They offer hour-long high-intensity interval workouts all day long, 7 days per week. I love that every class is different, so you never get bored. They also use mostly basic equipment found at any gym, so you can learn new moves that you can replicate on your own. The instructors are also very high energy and definitely get your motivated, and are also happy to help you modify workouts during class if you let them know your limitations in advance (i.e., if you're recovering from an injury). I've also received great customer service from them when I was injured and some class credits expired. They also offer personal training sessions, I took one complimentary once which kicked my butt!!!

The first time we tried to go to Kai Zan, we strolled in on a weekend night, but were told they were booked up with reservations all evening. Oh. Didn't realize that. We had dinner at a place across the street, and when I got home, I made reservations for a Saturday night at 7pm. We got there a few minutes early, so they offered us a seat to wait, and took a drink order. When I ordered my wine the bartender(?) told me it had a distinct taste, and offered to bring me a sample first. I tried it, liked it, and ordered a glass. A few minutes later, our seats at the sushi bar were ready. They warned me when they confirmed our reservation that that is where we might end up sitting, which is fine with us - it's fun to watch the chefs, and also, it's easier to have a conversation when sitting next to your dining companion instead of across the table. Everything we ordered came out promptly and was delicious. I had the green salad (I love ginger dressing), we shared the fried chicken (so tender), the calamari (it was good, I really liked the dipping sauce that came with it), the Char Siu (one of my husband's childhood favorites), the Fiesta Maki roll, the Green Monster roll (my favorite), and for dessert, the green tea ice cream, Lava Cake and Aebelskiver. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and perfectly timed. And the prices were reasonable in my opinoin (for the quality of food and being in the city).

I love taking classes here! They are very professional, and you will feel like a sexy diva in no time! The atmosphere is very encouraging no matter your body type or dance experience. Everyone starts with the Basic Burlesque class to learn the basic moves (bump, grind, shimmy, etc) and then you can move on to Beginner/Intermediate where you'll put those moves to good use, perfecting them and also learning a choreographed routine. The space itself is very nice - large studio space with mirrors and hardwood floor, and a sexy lobby/reception space.

Very happy with their services. They arrived promptly on schedule, and got the move done in the time we expected. There was a delay when they were driving their truck to our new place, but we did not get charged for the additional time. Would definitely recommend if you need professional and polite movers (and a truck) in the Chicago area.
