CALLING ALL TEACHERS (and others) INTERESTED IN MAKING! All you want to know but may have been too afraid to ask....

Next week will be a week of Making! First, me, David Armistead and Kami T. Wilt speak at the Austin Forum on Tuesday, August 5th (FREE with RSVP, but they're almost capped out near 300, so do it asap: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-austin-forum-on-science-technology-society-tickets-12274450211.)

Then, the next night, August 6th, our Austin Maker Ed Group will feature a meet up open to all (but you must RSVP on Meetup) at Tech Shop in Round Rock. For teachers, parents, and other interested parties intrigued by Making and Maker Spaces, yet a bit overwhelmed by it all, we'll be featuring Maker stations to familiarize you with various approaches and tools, plus Tech Shop will be giving tours of their space. I will be shepherding the stop motion animation area, featuring the inimitable Johnny Villarreal's The Edge of Imagination Station! Come on by! FREE!
Are you an educator, community leader, or simply interested in the maker movement?  In May, Austin Mini Maker hosted the MakerEd tent that asked educators:  • How do you bring "making" into your classroom?  • What would make introducing "making" to your audience easier?  Come join fellow makers/educators as we explore the maker paradise that is TechShop. Take a tour and after join us in an opportunity to participate in some making with Makey Make...

I enjoyed penning a guest blog post for Alt Ed Austin, an incredible resource for parents seeking alternative approaches to education, including whole child and experiential learning, in the Austin area.

The piece is an overview of our conference and Interactive Playground, STEAM3 (cubed) upcoming this March 1st and 2nd at UT. We have a stellar group of educators, researchers, and artists joining us and so many amazing toys to play with.

My latest post on Laughing Squid about William (formerly "Bill") Barker, creator of the '90s Schwa phenomenan. After a long hiatus, he's back and raring to create some new art. Those who contribute to his Indiegogo campaign can get signed, limited edition prints.
William (formerly known as Bill) Barker, the creator of Schwa universe, has happily reappeared with a new venture, alaVoid, a printmaking studio that he's launching via an Indiegogo campaign. The c...
