Rawai Fish market.
On the southern tip of phuket you will find Sea Gypsy village.
The villagers mainly make their living from their fresh fish market and restaurants.
On one side of the road you have all the restaurants and on the beach side of the road are all the shops selling fresh fish.
The idea is that you first buy the fish you want from one of the shops, and then bring the fish to one of the restaurants, who will prepare it for you in the style you like. The restaurants charge per weight for preparing your food.
The Sea Gypsies in Rawai have been under pressure in the recents years, because some local business people who claims that the land the Sea Gypsies staying on, don't belong to the Sea Gypsies. Now DNA test have proved that the Sea Gypsies, have stayed on the land for more than 100 years. That will mean that they can continue to stay in their village. The case is still in the court. #phuket #thaifood #thailand
